Growing crops for their seed?

Hello All,

I've just purchased some cumin, flax, and fennel seed to try this year! I was wondering if anyone else has tried any of these or other plants grown for their seed, and what your experiences were?

I've only done dill for the seeds. I would like to do cumin. Maybe I will try that one this year! Thanks for the idea!

Ha no prob...I was also surprised to find out that flax is a small, pretty blue flower, so if you like flowers you might give that a try as well!

The whole flax plant is a beautiful addition to a garden or field. Some of the farmers around here will rotate flax with oats and wheat. It is an incredible contrast with its bluegreen plant color as opposed to the bright green of wheat and the gray-green of oats. Then, when a field blooms, WOW!

Hi Mike,
We saved seed from L/Y's summer squash. Too soon to plant 'em here, but may try. We also saved seed from "grocer's" sweet peppers last Fall. So far the peppers are sprouting over 90%. Hope they bear fruit.

I have grown coriander and dill for their seed. I save some tomato seed. The peppers I like to grow are F1 hybrids so I don't save those seeds. I had left some rattlesnake beans on the vine to mature and harvest for seed, but number one son went out and picked them for supper one night. Growing crops for their seed? 136416910

I will be looking to save more next year.

at the moment the only ones we save are the flower seeds i have gallon bags of cosmos,zinyas, an marigold seed pods that the otherhalf plucked off the stems but never got around to getin the seeds out of yet. i have 17 birdhouse gourds drying in the garage at the moment might try an find out if those seeds are any good by starting a couple this year. last year i was going to save some of the hosta seed pods i have 8 veriaties never got around to it maybe this year:shock:
