What's in a name?

This is a good a time as any: When I joined the old forum last summer, I was very suspicious of some one who was head of a penal institution, and walked around with 5 stars under his avatar, as a moderator! The only one, mind you. (maybe it was 4 at the time) Hey, people misspell, he coulda been WardenWake! It took weeks of participation to get past that idea!

Anybody else? Ward in Wake?

So my name is Jen and so is apparently half the other women of my age in this country! (ok maybe a bit of an exaggeration but still). So my freshman year of college I went to school at Towson in Maryland and there we seriously like 10 or more jens just in my small dorm building, like all on my floor! (seriously, we were in a 3 story small old dorm house there weren't that many rooms!). Surprisingly I was the only one that was from New Jersey, hence I became Jersey Jen so people would know which jen you were referring to in conversations. A few also went with "red jen" (cause im a redhead) but that didnt really stick. Somehow that nickname just stuck with me over the years and followed me when I moved to southern illinios (and now im back in the garden state - lucky me). It seems to be fairly easy to get on forum, since I guess most people arent really proud to be from NJ lol. Not sure how I migrated to the weird spelling of "jerzy"

I guess that explains your profile image/avatar, choksaw? You sound much more friendly in your posts than the feeling one gets when they see that scary face! :o)

So it's true! If someone is from Jerzy, you can just ask which exit. I love it.

I'm never quite sure exactly how to answer the exit question because i'm the same distance from exit 4 through 7 on the NJ Tpke.

I always thought the same thing about choksaw, he seems so nice but that face on the avatar scares the bejezus outta me.

The letters are my initials, but I don't use my first name. Those letters also make up my my license plate. The numbers... well, lets just say the remind me of home .

Not very creative but websites always want more than just my four letters.

Some people call me by those initials pronouncing it "micker". But only me oldest friends!

yup im originaly from NJ too lived there 22 years and never knew what exit i was cause i never paid to travel the NJTP or the parkway lol but i wasnt too far from woodbridge

Shoda was the name of the Champion Rhodesian Ridgeback I bred and showed before I had kids. He was my best buddy - gentle hearted, kind, devoted, etc...
He passed away six years ago but he is still in my heart. So much so that I moved to poodle mixes because having another ridgeback would have been too hard at the time. Shoda stands for "Show Dag" (drop the g).

My son has a hybrid wolf - it is the most beautiful animal, fur is so dense, nothing like a dog, & he is the sweetest thing ever. He was attacked by pit bulls a few years ago & lost a hind leg, but he's still very active.

La Fee is French for "The Fairy" -- and I need a garden fairy oh-so-badly to make sure my first effort at SFG grows! I said on one of the other threads that since I'm a regional host, also means I can be expected to flit in and out as needed!

I found my avatar and chose her because she is holding a flower and is green, as in a garden (well, as a garden *should* be...) -- but it's a little funny that La Fee Verte (the green fairy) is another term for absinthe -- yes, the favored tipple of so many of my favorite painters and writers.

Is this where we post suggestions for the off topic forum title? If not, point me the way.

I was thinking of something round (since it is not square f. g.) How about something like:

Interesting... I thought I was looking at a pic of myself for a moment...

I came up with Momma Pajama about 5 years ago. I am an early bird and am usually up by five a.m. without an alarm (sometimes earlier ). I get through a lot of my to-do list before my husband or sons even wake up, and it's in my pjs!

when i first started using the puter my first e-mail started O_t_h =over the hill next came h_o_g =horny old goat when i joined msn chat groups i started out as booger43 an most shortened it to boog cause they hated saying booger its pretty much stuck.

Im not very active here but im also addicted to the forum...learning a lot and good laughs too.

Years ago I had a graphic arts business called GRAFICO. My little granddaughter visited me right after I got a little calf and in order to distinguish between the grandmothers she called me
grandma cow...I put them together and Ive been GRAFICOW for quite a few years now and
there are not many of these around.

I have a jetski that is called a WaveJammer that has a duck-like look to it, that friends called "The Duck". I also had a friend who called me an odd duck (pot, meet kettle). So when I signed up for a jetski forum I became Odd Duck. It's stuck ever since and I acknowledge it's truth proudly. Wouldn't life be boring if we were all the same?

Well, I just picked the user name (and first part of my email address) supplied by my employer (University of Guelph) which is my first initial and last name.

Now I wish I'd stuck the word 'quilt' in there somewhere, since I've seen there are a few other quilters in the SFG forums!

This is my first year of SFG gardening (or almost any vegetable gardening if you don't count the few times I failed trying to grow tomatoes), so my primary obsession (quilting) has had to take a back seat while I immerse myself in seed catalogues and online gardening sites (mostly this one!)

Our kitchen table had been overtaken by my sewing machine but now there are hundreds of seedlings all around it on the table, because that's where the best light is. So far I haven't started growing anything on the ironing board...yet...

I'd love to hear from the other quilters!
