Hello my name is Mark and I live in Milton Ontario Canada. I have been veggie gardening for 3 years now and I have learned a lot in that time, but I still have a lot to learn. I arrange my crops in a square foot layout using grids, but I have to be honest, I didn't realize when I read the book that the soil was such a big deal. I used 1 part Compost, 1 part soil, and 1 part manure, and I top up every year with that.

Maybe someday when I move and create a new garden I will use Mel's Mix, but for now I am happy with my results.

I have 3 garden areas, 2 raised and 1 ground level. This year I have planted: Strawberries, Cucumbers (2 kinds spaced out by 4 weeks), bunching Onions, Carrots (3 plantings 2 weeks apart), Peas (2 kinds), Cherry Tomatoes, Standard Tomatoes (6 plants all different varieties), Bush Beans, Swiss Chard, Lettuce, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Zuchinni.

So far I have harvested Strawberries, Lettuce, Peas, Beans, and Swiss Chard.

Anyways I have been a lurker here for a while and am looking forward to participating in this forum.

Cheers!

New In Milton Ontario 396615 Mark from Milton in Ontario from Kelejan in British Columbia.

I think in future if you replace soil with vermiculite things will be even better.
If possible when refresing your mix, add some vermiculite and compost to bring it nearer the MM formula.

I'm a newbie as well, (2nd year) and if I have advised you incorrectly someone will jump in and put things right. lol

Manure is one of the ingredients of compost so you are on the right track. And I suggest you forget the soil part.

Glad you are happy with what you have done so far.
