Potatoes
Has anyone had success planting potatoes mid summer? Mel's book says it's a spring, summer, fall plant. It gets so hot in Tennessee, I'm wondering if they would grow in this hot dry weather. I'm harvesting potatoes from my planting in March and would love to grow another batch! Am loving SFG!

Re: Potatoes
I just planted sweet potatoes. We will see how it goes. Can't hurt to try they were 2 bucks for 9 at kmart. BTW most of their garden stuff is 40% off.

Re: Potatoes
I read tubers will develop as long as the soil is less than 86°. Keep things mulched and/or watered and you may just pull it off.
I also read that watering the top inch of soil can reduce soil temps 20 degrees down to 2 inches, but 10-15 degrees down to 6 inches as the water pulls the heat out of the depths to evaporate the moisture.
