Going Vertical (Conduit Question) Empty Going Vertical (Conduit Question)

I'm ready to add trellises to two of my raised beds. I see that Mel recommends 1/2" electrical conduit. Has that proved adequate for most folks, or have some of you all elected to use 3/4" instead? I don't want to go overboard, but the difference in cost wouldn't be tremendous. Just curious to know the opinions of others on this forum...

I think everyone who has tried it, has been happy with the ½". Including the engineer types!

The cost of the EMT is small; the cost of the fittings is crazy.

Even though I was prepped for this anomoly, it still gave me sticker shock at the stores. I just couldn't see why such the difference.

I imagine the 3/4" fittings are more expensive than the 1/2"? And, that part is worth considering, imo.

1/2 in has worked well for us. I couldn't believe the price on the "elbows" or bent conectors. We bought a conduit bender because a straight connector was way cheaper and we were making enough trellisis to make it worth it. So far so good!

+1 on the connector price...we ended up using metal conduit but a pvc-type curved connector - not a perfect fit, but I was able to pull my nylon trellis tight enough (using the weaving method I saw here in the forums) that it keeps everything fairly sturdy... Smile ...and much less expensive...

Thanks to all. I bought my 1/2" EMT this morning. But, oh, how I wanted the 3/4". Ha!
