Hey, can we get a separate thread put up where the Friday Rookie Topics can be gathered together? I find these extremely useful and would like a simple place to browse through them for reference when the time comes to plant those items...

Thanks for your consideration...

I realize I can do a forum search in the little box on the left hand side, but I am lazy Smile Actually, the real reason for a new folder for them is that keeps them top of mind, especially when planting time comes around. I may forget that I want to plant shallots by fall. Smile

I, too, would love to be able to easily access all of the Friday Rookie Posts. This has become one of my favorite parts of the forum. If we get to vote on it, I vote YES, please, for a separate thread containing all of the Friday Rookie Posts!!! cheers

I think it's a good idea. To help make things easier on Jennie (M^2), could we offer some suggestions in here as to WHERE we'd like to see the subforum?

I think we should have some Master Sticky section, but I haven't mentioned anything yet because we are still accumulating articles worthy of stickies. Until we build up a bit of content, I think we will have to roll with some "inconveniences." But, as everyone sticks around, stays active, and participates, we will accumulate enough content. Quality content will dictate it's own "home." It's only a matter of time. We are still pretty young, as far as forums go.

I also have a question. Is it appropriate to piggy back someone elses post and ask a seperate, but related question? I don't want to detract from the original post, but I also don't want to start another post on the same subject. What do you think?

If it's related to shallots, I say go ahead and ask. If it's not about shallots, then a new topic might be best.

Buttaflie, you can PM me about it if you're still not sure!

Yes, I am quoting myself above. Methinks I was suffering from lack-of-coffee syndrome. I thought I was in that Rookie thread about shallots. Embarassed

Sorry 'bout that.

I am thinking about this....will let everyone know.

A THREAD will not be an option, because all the replies to all the topics will be jumbled up.

A subforum is a possibility though.

New Forum Request 601593 What is a Friday Rookie Post?

Every Friday one of the Regional Hosts starts a post about a new or less common veggie for our SFG.

The most recent was Friday's Rookie Post Check out the link, then look for more under Forumns, SFG Talk, General Discussion

I thought we were thinking of a separate subforum?

But, you know, on second thought, maybe a sticky at the top of General SFG titled "Rookie Posts" would suffice? Once clicked on, all the Rookie Posts, in reverse chronological order, would open as a list......then, click on the article you want to read.

The forum does not work this way. I can sticky a THREAD. Each Rookie Topic IS a thread with multiple posts. I cannot sticky all the threads...the only option would be to have a post and inside that post would be a LINK to all the different rookie topics and then the person would have to click on the rookie post to read it, and then each friday the new link would be added.

Post  ModernDayBetty 5/21/2011, 10:46 pm

While it wasn't worded correctly, in my mind when it was requested it be a new thread I was thinking it would be a whole new button. I was thinking it would be great as a new green button under how to... I think it would only work well that way though if you can make it so only certain people can post them. I'm guessing they are being posted by forum admins and/or certified sfg teachers?

Well that's my 2 cents. :o) I really enjoyed the shallots. My other sorta related 2 cents is it would be great if there was a sticky to go with that new forum button that was like a season calendar, like winter, spring, summer, fall: when to plant what. A lot of things are obvious but some of the things being talked about in rookie posts are not, like the shallots being in fall. This way I could look at the calendar and see what I could be planting now then look at the rookie posts for something new to try.

Anyway, even if nothing changes, the rookie posts are great. Keep them coming! :o)

Goodness, middlemamma, nothing is more important than your health. I'm sure everyone else would agree that you shouldn't stress out over this while you're not feeling well. There will be plenty of time to see to it once you're feeling better - no need to rush! I hope you feel better soon!

How is this everyone?

https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t7390-friday-rookie-topics#66789

it can be found as a sticky in the SFG Discussion forum and I will update with the new links each week?

Let me know. This didn't take long and can be deleted if it isn't going to work.

I see the Friday Rookie Posts Forum is up and running. GREAT!

I asked a question about Chard the other day so I read the second Friday thread on
Chard. found lots of information there.

I will read the others tomorrow.

It is a great idea, thank you ashort for your brilliant suggestion and thank also to middlemamma for setting this up. It is super easy to use.
