frog call
I took a blade of grass and held it between my thumbs and when you blow into it, you can make a noise, and I was doing that and a frog started answering me, then more frogs started answering me, I had about 4 of them making noise. I was able to track this one down by listening to it answer my frog call.
Re: frog call
That is so cool !! I wonder if its frogs I hear then and not turkeys in the mornings Im in the garden. I will have to try that!! Thanks for sharing mr frog as well, he is a fine specimen.

P.S. Josh, one of my son wanted to know the time of day you were able to get the frogs to call?

Re: frog call
Josh! You probably got some poor froggie all excited thinking he found a lady friend! LOL!
It's fun to see what sounds animals will respond to. My husband was doing some work on the car alarm a few days ago and noticed that every time he would make the alarm beep, a bird would answer back with a very specific two note song.

Re: frog call
I can just hear the frog thinking now..
"Oh boy, Oh boy...I hear my date. Maybe I'll call out to her...
Oooh, she answered back. I better spruce up the house a little....just in case. Let's see if she answers again...Darn it, why do I have to be so well camoflauged...how will she ever find me now? Better make some more noise...
Wow-wee. It sounds like she's getting closer. Hmmm, what? I hear another dude trying to horn in on my potential woman. Better send him the "back off, Jack" call....
Awww fish manure....more dudes? Jeez, what's a guy gotta do to get a lady by himself?
Hmmm, she sounds like she's coming my way again. Hahahaha, suckers....who's the tough guy now? Keep it up, lady, and after a couple drinks of pond water, we are going to tadpole this place like nobody's BID-ness. Oh, daddy's been waiting for this all winter long. C'mon home mamma.
She's so super close, I bet if I look real hard I can see her hopping this way.
WHAT?! One of those humans!! And, a dude? Sheesh. This mating thing is just so danged frustrating. No wonder we pop out jillions of babies when we finally get it right. I'm so tired. Do I still have to sing tonight?
And, I think I have a frog in my throat....or maybe I'm just a little horse?"

Reminds me of a Dallas pet shop with two mynah birds. One would imitate the shop owner's call, "Kitty, kitty, kitty." The other would respond, "Meow, meow." Mynahs being clever imitators, another I heard totally cracked me up when it would make the test pattern's extended note, which indicated the end of the broadcast day. For you young'ns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Srmdij0CU1U&NR=1
And I know, it was a long, long time ago, but then, I'm old. Anyone hearing the bird knew it had to be more than once that its owner fell asleep in front of the TV.

Re: frog call
Very cute Gray Treefrog! They tend to sing from the trees at night during June here. I haven't seen or heard any here around the yard yet. Wood frogs, spring peepers, and gray treefrogs have been singing in the pond down the street since easter weekend though. Once they are done breeding I am sure we'll see them in the yard again.

Re: frog call
Excellent! We are going tadpole rescuing this weekend and will be bringing home gray treefrog tadpoles. I can't wait! I've been seeing Fowler's Toads near my garden - terribly cute! And there are tadpoles in the mini lakes left from the floods. I think the mallards have been enjoying them as snacks. Hopefully some of them are good hiders. The call of the gray treefrog is my text message alert. I recorded him on last year's tadpole rescue. Josh - I hope you enjoy more "concerts"!

Re: frog call
I think they were all ladies answering my call, and this one found her prince (me)
They start early mornings and early evenings, this one was around 4:30 pm
My mom took this video just for the sounds the birds were making, and the frogs are singing right along with the birds, around 7:00 am

Love it! Thanks for sharing! Aren't they so charming? What a great thing to hear in the mornings! And I agree that you heard females. They were letting you know they liked your song and where you could find them.
