My own garden is in flux. I may have to move soon so I haven't planted in a few months so do not have anything to add there. I harvested the one cabbage I planted and it was a beaut. I still have half of it. I was too slow on a lot of the broccoli and only got a small amount before it was too late.

It has been a cold and wet winter/spring and anyone who waited on tomatoes was smart. However, March is the first 'official' month to put out plants so have at it. We MUST be past the frosts by now.

Below is a list of what to plant in So Cal according to Sunset's Western Garden Guide:

Beans,
Bush

Beans,
Pole

Beets

Cabbage

Carrots

Corn

Cucumber

Eggplant

Herbs

Lettuce

Onions/Garlic
sets

Peppers

Potatoes

Spinach

Squash,
summer

Squash,
Winter

Sunflowers

Tomato
plants

Let me know what is happening in YOUR garden and pictures are always a plus!

Chopper,

I always thought we Southern California gardeners should wait until nighttime temps are around 55 degrees. Therefore, I generally wait until at least April 1 to plant those summer veggies. Perhaps I've been planting too late? What do you think?

I planted tomatoes last March and they turned out fine. And it was a coolish spring/summer/ It varies every year so this year, being so cold, it might not be the best time. But as you know, the weather can turn on a dime and start to get hot anytime.

Also, March 1st may be a tad early, but March 15 might be perfect. I have followed the guidelines as the Western Garden Guide suggests and have had no problems. It is a science and an art with a pretty big handful of luck.

anybody have any updates on their garden? the stuff that I planted seems to be growing really slow, or may be it's just me wanting to get to the point where I can enjoy my hard work. I also seem to be really paranoid about pest ruining my garden.

Not sure what you are expecting but I found the times on seed packets were less than useless. So I ceased counting and simply accepted what was. The cooler it is, the slower things will grow and the same thing happens when it gets too hot - growth slows.
