Present from hubby
Since we were helping a daughter with a custody problem, I didn't get a birthday or Yule present. So when this was advertised Hubby said I could get one. Opinions?

Re: Present from hubby
Oh, that would be lovely!! Although, I have never HAD a greenhouse before, so I don't know anything at all about the quality of it. Looks wonderful. It does have the vents which are important so that is a good thing.
What kind of plans do you have for anchoring it in place? Do you have to worry about wind storms knocking it down?

Re: Present from hubby
I am in southern Iowa which is zone 5a.
We are in farm/pasture country without wind storms. We get snow but not several feet at a time!
Ben first thought is some kind of ground anchor rods. He will probable set them in concrete.
I know nothing about greenhouses either but I really want one! He figures if I find I like them by the time to replace with a permanent one at least I will have an idea of what I am doing!
I won't be going year round. I just want to extend my time on each end.
If too hot I can use fans. If it gets cold when I don't want then I will use my patio heater.
I think it will be great for what I want!

Re: Present from hubby
Thank you jumiclads!
hat is a lot of information to digest! I am printing a bunch of it out for the hubby to see before he buys. He might not want to do all the modifications that is recommended. But I think just a couple of them will help in Iowa.

Re: Present from hubby
Well crappers...that plan is sunk! Was all ready to get the greenhouse. Then my glasses broke! Now that wouldn't be a problem for most but my insurance doesn't cover vision. My M.S. makes my eyes very funky lol... after all is done my glasses cost me almost $600! My lenses wouldn't fit in any frames..grrrr. So back to the idea of reconstructing an old shed. I am back to saving up for my dream.

Re: Present from hubby
Bummer My husband is ordering his next pair of glasses online. I guess there are places outside the US that will make glasses MUCH cheaper and all you need is a prescription with a few specific details. If you want to know more let me know and I'll ask him for the details.

The problem is due to the M.S. I have to have consistent care so they know how my eyes are doing. Because of that I doubt my doctor would appreciate my going off site for glasses. I will sound him out though. I would hate to make him mad. I have been seeing him since 1982
Now to start looking for second hand windows, ect ect
