Learn something new all the time
I started my square foot garden (one box to start with) and the weeds took over. The reason...I didn't have enough compost and such for Mel's Mix. So I added bagged soil. Yes, I know I shouldn't have, but I didn't add a lot so I thought I would be okay. Turns out things started to grow, then the weeks took over and the rest is history and a lesson learned. Since then my husband made me a large composting box and I have been working on that so I know when I do it again I will have homemade, fresh compost and plenty of it! I will be happy to try again knowing it will work next time. Blessings, Wendy

Re: Learn something new all the time
but that's unfortunate since you bought bagged soil! However, yes. We live, we learn, we try again.
My sadness this year is that my back was extremely fragile during planting time. I had help (not my husband) filling my new beds, but the "mix" is extremely lean on the vermiculite/peat moss. It is such a difference from last year when all my beds had MM - this stuff does NOT retain water at all.
On the other hand, I am so extremely grateful that I got many new beds this year, at a time when I would have been out of luck on my own.
