Re: What is this? Plant identification?
Thanks. That’s what I’ll do. If any seeds were In the compost that went in the bottom of my bed should have frozen. It was sub 20 here two nights in a row and sun freezing on one day on each side. Will that kill unwanted seeds?sanderson wrote:Brian, Volunteers are easy to remove from the beds - either because it's the wrong seedling in the square or it's not in the proper spacing. My though is to cut the plants off in the seed pots rather than pull out and disturb the intended seed.

Well, not to be a downer, but I have volunteers from my compost every year, despite below 0*F temperatures! I don’t know how they do it, but they do.

Maybe not kill the seeds, but if the compost went on the bottom of the bed, it may not sprout. Either way, it's not the worse thing to happen to a gardener, thank goodness. My second year I had hundreds of tomatoes pop up. I was still learning the Berkeley hot method. Now that I am only using the large tumbler and temps can reach only 150*F, I may get a lot of volunteers.

Look around but can't figure out what this weed is. Does anyone know what it is?

At first glance of the first photo I thought oregano, but as it got closer my next thought was wild geranium. But now I don't know. Does it look like it will flower?

Well it looks like we have the same thing wandering around the yard and garden. Mine do have minuscule red flowers on the plants. In the past I think I have seen itty bitty pink flowers.

you're right. that's it. thank you. It don't seem to be that aggressive. Anyone having trouble with it?
Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) is also a cool season annual weed. Henbit is a member of the mint family thus the characteristic square stem. The stems are slender, ascending or prostrate and are freely branched at the base. Stems may root at the lower nodes. Leaves are opposite, nearly circular with deep veins, hairy and are petioled. The upper leaves clasp the stem and lower leaves are distinctly petioled. The roots are shallow and fibrous. The flowers are tubular, pink to purple in color, and borne in the leaf axile.

Re: What is this? Plant identification?
Thanks has55. They were pretty. But this is not really a greenhouse. I think it is called a low hoop house. Those are 9 foot pvc pipes bent over a 2' wide bed with cheapy 10 foot wide 6 mil plastic draped over the hoops. So not very tall. I put old timey Christmas lights down the length of the beds that actually kept the bed quite a bit warmer than the outside air.has55 wrote:yolos , I love the lights in your greenhouse.
