Finally Planted my SFG

Well I have lost my Square Foot Gardening virginity. Finally Planted my SFG Icon_lol

Only had time to get the fencing installed on one SFG but I was able to get it done and fully planted. Planted 4 tomato plants, 2 squash, 2 yellow peppers, 1 Jalapeno, 1 Habanero, 2 pea pods, 2 beans, 2 spinach.

Lots of rabbits in my yard and deer in the woods behind my house.

You did a great job! I like the mulching around the boxes. Finally Planted my SFG Alien

I bet you won't have weeds creeping into your boxes like I do. Hopefully, next year, I can upgrade my boxes w/ mulch.

Your garden looks very nice. Do you lift out each fence panel as you need to have access? Or are the connected somehow? Did you paint your boxes green or did they come that way?

I want to get some of those brackets that you've used to hold the poles to the boxes. But I couldn't find them and HD and I don't know what the are called. Can you help me?

Clair,
I bought a 20' stick of 3/4" PVC conduit and bought the 3/4" straps made to secure the conduit to a surface. I then cut 6" lengths of the PVC conduit and attached 2 on each end of all 4 sides of my SFG (so 8 pieces total).

I then constructed a fence for each side by taking a 20' stick of 1/2" EMT thinwall conduit, cutting it in half, and connecting the fencing to each end with plastic zip ties. The 2 ends of the fence then slide easily into the 3/4" PVC mounts on the box. When you're done you have a removable fence on all sides of your SFG.

Constructed my boxes using 2x8's and painted them before putting them together. 2 are green and the middle one is pink (my daughter's).

I really like this. It allows the box to be so accessable. Do you think it would keep deer out of the box? Our son wants a box but the deer are a serious problem. What did you use for fencing?

I am hoping it will. Just a light chicken wire mesh for the fencing. I am hoping the deer will leave it alone. I have also put Deer deterrent on the ground around the SFG.
If it does not work then next year I will have to build a permanent fencing that will keep them out.

that is great!! I can see what you mean about the deer considering that side yard... now if you ever need a hunter to come and help Finally Planted my SFG Icon_twisted

You can also try pinwheels and other things that move, I've used reflective tape so when it blows in the wind, preditor urine (usually wolf, or coyote), or motion light.

I really love the clean look of your garden!

awesome solution - and truly simple in execution - but wow if it works!!!! you're going to have to share updates and 'tweaks' as you go thru the season. i'm sure i'm not alone in wanting to have 'better' ideas on keeping critters away!
