Now is the Time to Start Preparing Next Year's Spring Garden
Dave's Garden has a good overview article on tasks to do now to prepare for next spring. This article was published in 2017, but it is still timely.

Re: Now is the Time to Start Preparing Next Year's Spring Garden
I liked that the article mentioned making any repairs when the beds are cleaned.
I have a few driplines that have clogged and need to be replaced, not to mention the last table top bed that needs a new bottom.
Whatever one can get done before winter, will pay off in the spring. Boy, have I learned that lesson these past 2 years. You never know what life can throw you over winter.
Clean up the beds. Add compost and cover with bedding straw, dry leaves, dry pine needles, or my new favorite, E-Z Straw with Tack from Tractor Supply. Come spring, pull back or remove mulch to warm up the soil.

Ain't that the truth! The last week of this past April I ended up in the hospital for surgery, with a 6 weeks recovery time. Our last frost in May 15th, and I hadn't even started getting the beds ready for planting.
