Re: N&C Midwest: October 2022
So I typically only order from a few companies—Pinetree (Superseeds) is my go-to company, and I have bought the most from them including garlic for fall planting.
I also buy from Bakers, but usually only seeds. I have also gotten nice things (again, seeds) from Urban Farmer. It is important to me to get someone who has a zone similar to mine—I have no time for things that won’t live! I like northern growers for this reason. We don’t have much time, have to make the most of it!

Planted my garlic after amending and adding MM to the 48” fire ring. Found a surprise Yukon Gold! Will mulch tonight. Also need to mulch and clean up my rhubarb. Picked last 3 red onions from cold frame. Will close it tonight, celery is still going in there. Picked my last 2 kohlrabi in the cold frame too.

OhioGardener, those beds (with the metal sides) are beautiful! Love the neat cleaned look. Are they as wide as they look - 5ft?

No, 4' by 8' or 12'. I love the beds, and my old back really appreciates that they are 18" high so I don't have to bend down very far.

Dang! Got cold today here and windy! Just ate my last Red Kuri squash, and some garlic harvested this past January! I was bummed about only getting one red Kuri. I had 8 last year….

It is supposed to get down to 25 tonight here! Last year we got one Red Kuri, and this year we got 9.

Re: N&C Midwest: October 2022
It was 75 degrees here today and it's supposed to be 75 for the next two days! Mulched enough leaves this afternoon to cover one of my 4x10 ft beds and added some to the compost. Ate the first of our butternut squash and it was delicious! Can't wait to plant the varieties you sent me SR next summer! Trying to plan where I can let 15 feet of vine grow for some red kuri squash
Happy Weekend everyone!

Beautiful here today too! I canned yesterday, and froze my bell peppers today. Got zero done outside, plan to put the bulbs (flowers) in next couple weekends!JAM23 wrote:It was 75 degrees here today and it's supposed to be 75 for the next two days! Me too, Jam23! I am excited to have more fall squash—actually squash in general! I love them.
Enjoy, everyone!

SR that all looks so good! I tried cowboy candy for the first time this year and my family was amazed! They all want to double the amount of jalapeno peppers next year just to make those! LOL
What a rewarding way to spend the weekend!

Re: N&C Midwest: October 2022
Phew! Mulched enough leaves to cover all my beds for the winter months ahead. Feels good to have them all finished and they should be all set up for spring planting next year. Now my quest is to gather and mulch as many leaves as I possibly can to set aside for another year of composting! I did pretty good last year and saved about 10-11 months worth of leaves, so this year my goal to is have enough until they start falling again next fall. What a great way to spend this last 75 degree day before the rain settles in tomorrow.
Hope you have all had a wonderful Monday!

Happy Halloween!!!
I spent the day picking up "treats" in my neighborhood in the form of lawn bags filled with leaves! The curbs in my neighborhood are full of them! Can't believe we are heading into November!!
