Message from Sanderson
Hi folks, I have been basically bed-ridden, or rather, sofa-ridden, for over 5 weeks. Something happened to my lower back while we were expanding Sanderson's Veggie, and now Fruit, garden. Bottom line, getting to the computer has been impossible at times. After 3 failed attempts getting an MRI, yesterday was a success under general anesthesia. I expect a restoration of movement in the coming weeks and full involvement on the Forum. Gardeners are optimistic creatures or we wouldn't garden.

Sanderson! My goodness!!! I was wondering what had happened to you as it didn't seem like you to be silent for so long. Glad the MRI was successful and here's to a quick recovery!

S, Sorry to hear about your back, I too have had back problems and it's better to rest up and heal: "Slow and easy wins the race". Most back problems take time, so take it easy!

Re: Message from Sanderson
Resting up to heal is excellent advice for the early stages of back pain. Physicians often prescribe pain medications, physical therapy, and/or gentle stretching.
However, after weeks or months of intractable pain, imaging studies are called for. Depending upon the results, surgery may be recommended.
Based on my own experience, I sympathize with Sanderson's situation and have a fairly good idea what she's going through. I hope her medical team can come up with a workable strategy.

Dear Sanderson, thinking of you while you await test results and hoping for the best. Here's hoping your issue is resolved. A couple of years ago heavy composting changed my back and hips and my life.
Best Wishes.

Re: Message from Sanderson
Thank you for more well wishes. Hi, there LLama Momma! I was wondering where you were.
I cannot get onto my husband's laptop with my Password. I have it saved on my PC but I have a new PC in a box, waiting to get everything transferred to it. I don't dare have Ken take it to the shop until I get the password problem corrected. Bottom line, getting to my PC has been a second problem in visiting our Gorum.
The 4th attempt at getting an MRI, finally using propofol anesthesia, was a success. I got a good nap, at least. The results were available yesterday. Main thing is a synovial cyst , 1.3 x 0.8 cm, contacting the right L5-S1 nerve root. The main source of pain. A bunch of other findings consistent with my age and osteoporosis. I've been on the sofa for 6 weeks and 2 days, but who's counting! It's a good thing I gave up composting 2 years ago.
Between my husband and daughter, the garden is doing well. It was 97*F yesterday and my daughter got all the E-Z Straw on the day before. The mini-orchard is doing good. Main thing left is moving the strawberries from their 2' x 1.5' 2020 bed into a 2' x 4' bed where the runners can do their thing. Photos later.

Glad they are figuring out what is causing the pain. Are they thinking of doing surgery to remove the cyst or do they have some other method of correcting the problem.

The garden with Ken and Annie doing all the work. I ate my first Muncher cucumber and 17-day French Breakfast radish.
Sweet potato totes, red potato 5-gallon bucket and BTE tomatoes.
BTE tomatoes.
Potted Romas, cucumbers, cantaloupes, Canadian crookneck winter squash and strawberries from 2020.
Bush Blue Lake beans with horizontal trellis system.
Orchard.

I honestly didn't even notice the weeds until you mentioned it. We're so hard on ourselves! Your garden looks gorgeous, as always.sanderson wrote:JC, Thank you. As you can tell, no weeding got done outside of the beds this season.
Glad you've got some answers about your back. So what's the next step? Maybe surgery?

Molly, thank you. I finally got an appointment with the neurosurgeon for June 15. Oh, well.
Re: Message from Sanderson
The old story, you need a specialist now but you're going to wait and wait and wait to get in. In the meantime your pictures look terrific. Rest Well.
