We are quickly moving into the Fall, and the pollinators are preparing for their winter hibernation. The Tulip Poplar trees are a host plant for the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, and many of our trees have their caterpillars munching away so that they can move into their chrysalis for the winter.  Love seeing this beautiful cats.

Beautiful!  I love the Eastern Black Swallowtail cats, too.  They were on my dill and parsley last year, haven’t seen them this year though...

We have a lot of the Black Swallowtail and Giant Swallowtail cats, but almost all of them are on our Common Rue plants. There are a few on the Dill, too. Normally I find some of the Black Swallowtail cats on the carrots, but didn't see a one there this year.

The Giant Swallowtail caterpillars decided to move to the siding in the corner of the garage to form their chrysalis. It will be surprising if they can survive the winter there since that is an area that gets the brunt of the wind and snow during the coldest months.
