My guess is that the seed leaves on the cukes are finished and can be taken off if they are bothering you.

As for the pepper, it's looks great to me. When did you plant it out? Could it be transplant shock? Is it a first year box? Or have the temps there been on the cooler side lately? If any of these, maybe a bit of organic fertilizer is on order. If none of these, let's wait for someone with more ideas.

Wish I was an expert, but they look fine at this point to me. As far as what might be nibbling on the pepper leaf, watch it, checking the underside of the leaves, also. Day time and at night with a flashlight.

It depends on the severity and frequency of the insect damage. A little damage like in your photo shouldn't have any noticeable effect on productivity. Severe damage can kill a plant. In between you could have a plant that survives but isn't quit as productive as it could have been.

Some insects do spread plant viruses though, which could further hurt the plant, possibly killing it.

The damage you posted was very minor on the pepper.  Also note, a lot of people prune their peppers and take off whole leaves intentionally.  Some people I've read will even STRIP every single leave off.  With that in mind, your pepper should be perfectly fine with a little insect damage here and there.

I did a search on the kind of damage Japanese beetles cause,  and it looks like the damage can be pretty severe.  A bad infestation of them could kill a plant. It depends how many leaves are destroyed vs how many are intact probably.

We had an infestation of Japanese Beetles a couple of years ago.  They really went after the pole beans and the raspberry bushes.  In fact we get them every year in the raspberry bushes and rose bushes.  I don't recall them getting onto the peppers in any big way.  Maybe the pole beans were acting as a "trap crop" and protecting the peppers. This year I have lots of holes in the leaves of my peppers but no sign yet of Japanese Beetles.

I will tell you about my experience; I have always been a pole bean person.  First SFG year here, no biggee.  Had a few copulating Paris toward the end of the run on the KY Wonders, but didn't do a ton of damage.

Next year--bad.  Grew a lovely variety from Baker Creek Burgundy pole...gorgeous.

JBs everywhere, especially targeting the growing tops and tender juicy stuff.  Scarred the beans...it was ugly.

Did not put beans in this year.  Gonna wait them out.  Evil or Very Mad
