We planted spinach the first week of May and they came up in approximately a week. They started growing fast and got up to 3-4 inches. Problem is, I don't think they've grown any in the last couple of weeks.

Is this normal for Spinach?

Thanks,

Adam

This is the same variety of spinach I grew this spring and last fall.   Last fall it did amazing! So amazing it's the only type I planted this spring... This spring I had the same issue as you... it grew alright to start with, then pretty much stopped.  And now it has bolted while very tiny.   Everything this spring grew slow for me.  I think I had some nitrogen deficiency, and have since been using a liquid fish fertilizer to bring everything back up to par.   Seems to be helping, but it was too late for my spinach.

My thoughts are that Spinach likes cool weather.  I don't know about that particular variety of spinach but I would think it likes the same conditions.  And since you are in the south, I think it would be too hot for spinach.

The year before last, I planted my spinach in the fall.  Harvested a little around Christmas and then just let it slowly grow over the winter and harvested again in the early spring.

I agree.  Too hot.  This spring, I grew Space, Bloomsdale Longstanding, and Gigante de Inverno...Bloomsdale did the best, but they all bolted really early.  Next year I am gong to direct sow.  I started mine under lights on a heating pad and I think I am setting them up for heat stress.  Give them another try when it gets cooler!
