I hope Charlotte is considered Middle South?  Which varieties of strawberries grow best in the Charlotte area, and, in particular, which are suited to square foot gardening?

SM1, welcome to the forum from Coastal NC. Out here near Wilmington we are considered Lower South.
Unfortunately, I have never planted strawberries, so I can't offer any input, but I'm sure others will!

Hi Shistzumama1. Welcome from Atlanta, GA. I'm AtlantaMarie, the Mid-South regional host.

I'm pretty sure you are one of mine. :-) But you may fit into Lower South as well.

According to strawberryplants.org, you have several choices:

Recommended strawberry varieties for North Carolina: Albion, Bish, Camarosa, Camino Real, Chandler, Gaviota, Gem Star, Oso Grande, Seascape, Strawberry Festival, Sweet Charlie, Treasure, Ventana. (According to the North Carolina Strawberry Association)

http://strawberryplants.org/2010/10/strawberry-varieties-by-state/#NC

All should do fine in a SFG. But keep in mind that they multiply by "runner." Many people have dedicated strawberry beds & treat them as perennials.
