I love the Square Foot Gardening concept. I moved from Massachusetts where we had good soil but a short growing season to North Carolina where we have hard red clay and hot direct sun. Gardening is a whole new learning experience. This is my third year in NC and I have 3 raised beds. I keep learning new things. I'm happy to say I finally have squash this year. In the past years the squash bugs took over. I've learned that 1" of water is not enough water, especially for tomatoes. If I do this right I can garden year round. I have found that the root veggies are better if left in the ground over the winter, especially carrots I'm trying a shade cloth - who would have thought that too much sun and heat could an be issue. I use the grids, without them my garden is not very organized Laughing I'm looking forward to learning and sharing ideas in this forum!

Hello From Charlotte 654548 Actcan

So nice to have you join us.

Yeah for the squash, and nice to see that you continue to learn about how things grow in NC. I know changing regions comes as a shock, especially when you knew what grew well in your old area.

Great to have you here, and please keep us updated on your progress. We also want to see pictures!

Again, Welcome!

Greetings Actcan !!!!

I'm just down the road from you in Rock Hill, SC. About 25 miles down I-77. Let me know if you need any ideas for places to buy stuff for your SFG. My wife and I moved with our little lad down here also from Massachusetts back in '07.

Its a great growing cycle here, don't you think?

Do you still laugh at the SNOW alerts and "winter" storm warnings on the TV...?

Welcome again !!!!
