Peppers with black spots
Last year my peppers were developing black spots and to some degree my tomatoes as well. I have heard calcium/eggshells might help with this? Is that true? Any other reasons?

Re: Peppers with black spots
There are different kinds of black spots, and different causes.
Were the spots only on the bottom of the fruits, or were they also on the sides?

I believe they were only on the fruit. On the bottom and slightly up the side.

Re: Peppers with black spots
Do you have a photo? Probably either blossom end rot, which is a result of inconsistant watering leading to mineral deficiency in the developing fruit. But more likely anthracnose, a fungus.

Thank you. I will try the suggestions with calcium and Epsom salts.

Read these, too, to better understand how the calcium deficiency thing works - it may not be your MM needing more calcium; it's often more that the tomatoes are having a hard time getting enough calcium to go where it's needed:

Dingo, try to Take tons of pictures, it really really helps the forum members figure out the problem.dingoatebaby wrote:I believe they were only on the fruit. On the bottom and slightly up the side.
Did the peppers develop? And you just cut the bad part? Or was the pepper a loss?

Even if you use those, maintain regular watering at the soil level.dingoatebaby wrote:Thank you. I will try the suggestions with calcium and Epsom salts.
If your problem was anthracnose neither of those will help.
