Yeah, you show her, little plants!
Doesn't seem possible right now, does it, TD. I have to say that is a wicked high trellis!
I think your summer plants will catch up eventually. You had a longer spring this year, as did I. I actually have only 2 flowers on 2 tomato plants now, whereas last year I had flowers on all of them along with some small fruits. We have to be patient.

We do what we have to do. Nothing you are putting in there is violating anything...I just put fish emulsion on my containers, which is really melons and ground cherries. The ground cherries had some chlorosis of the leaves.trolleydriver wrote:I got tired of seeing my Peppers looking weak in size and pale in color. So I bought some Jobe's Organics Vegetable and Tomato 3-7-4 granular fertilizer and did some side-dressing including the following:
1. 4x4 OSFG1
- each of three tomato plants
- each of four pepper plants
- a cabbage plant
2. 4x4 OSFG2
- each of four squares of cucumbers (some squares have two plants)
- each of two okra plants
- a pepper plant
- a cabbage plant
- an eggplant plant
3. 4x4 SFG1
- each of four tomato plants
- each of four pepper plants
I also planted a nursery bought Red Bell Pepper plant in 4x4 SFG2. I used the Jobe's fertilizer in the planting hole. Not long after I watered in the fertilizer, the sky turned a dark grey and the rain started.
All of the above is for my own records but I'll let you know if the fertilizer does or does not improve the pepper plant situation. I feel like I have gone against the principles of SFG by using a store bought organic fertilizer.
I have only used Jobe's Tree Food Spikes! Years ago. The rain was good timing!

Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
Rain again today and a high temp of only 60F. More rain is forecast for the next five days. There has been so much rain and cool weather (especially overnight) that the warm weather crops are struggling to make any progress. My indoor started peppers have hardly grown at all since the were transplanted into the garden. The tomatoes are coming along but are way behind in size from where they were at this time last year. They do have flowers which gives me some encouragement.

Ditto. Plus, I figure my plants need to get used to cold and wind since that's how it is living in a wind tunnel. It's probably just an excuse that I tell my lazy self. hehe

Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
Mrs TD got her first strawberry out of the SFG this morning. Thinning out the overgrown plants seems to have helped get rid of the mold that was developing on the ripening strawberries.

Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
Someday I am going to build something like this - a hinged hoop house. I like the way he attached the hoops to the frame but it is probably beyond my abilities. If you skip to the 5 minute point you can see how he makes the thingies that the hoop attaches to.CapeCoddess wrote:trolleydriver wrote:I've thought about doing that but have been too lazy.yolos wrote:Can you guys having cool weather put plastic over hoops in the evening to help keep them warmer??????????? Wow. Yolos! That's nice! Maybe we could use a door or window frame, screw in some hinges and attached the hoops. Did you ever post this in a thread that covers tunnels and such?

Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
Went out into the never ending rain, took some photos and harvested a few things.
First, Daikon Radish pods.
The next two photos show how the Daikon Radish plants have exploded in size and are hanging over the side of their box.
Two small Roma Tomatoes developing on this plant that was started indoors and is now growing in one of OSFG beds.
The Sugar Snap Pea plants have exceeded the height of the five foot trellis.
This small Green Bell Pepper is on a plant purchased recently at a garden centre and now growing in an SFG bed.
Harvested a few things after Mrs TD sent me out in the rain to see if there were any Green Bunching Onions ready for use in our dinner. I only found two (bottom of picture) that were a reasonable size so I also took a small Red Onion and a small Multiplier Onion. And I could not resist taking a couple of beets while I was out there.
We have had so much rain that the level of water in the goldfish pond is almost up to the lip of the waterfall. The outline of an orange goldfish can be seen to the left of the waterfall. Nasty looking green water as well.

OH NO! Looks like Photobucket has done me in. They gave no warning that this would happen. I did not realize they had a limit on 3rd party hosting.
From what I can see on their website the plan for unlimited linking and unlimited 3rd party hosting cost $399.99 US per year. Not going to happen. So it looks like all the many links to my photos will no longer work. That ruins the history of my first, second and third year SFG in Canada threads.
BTW I checked the Internet and it looks like a lot of people are complaining about what appears to be a new Photobucket policy. Some think that Photobucket's business model is failing and they are forcing people to pay into their service in order to survive. Photobucket is holding my photos for ransom. I can get at them on their website but cannot see them on 3rd party websites such as this forum. I am not a happy camper.

Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
Apparently Photobucket just changed their TOS and without notification have imposed their new policy which stops any linking/hosting from free accounts. There are people with online businesses who have been affected and have lost sales. There are forums that have become useless. Some people are checking into the legality of what Photobucket has done. They should have at least grandfathered existing links but that may not be technically feasible. I need to download my important photos from their website before they lock them up as well.sanderson wrote:

I do not understand why people do not host the pictures on their own computers. Is there a reason why they have to host on a place like photobucket or flicker.trolleydriver wrote:Yup ... looks like it's all gone unless I host the images somewhere else, edit my posts and change the links.yolos wrote:Oh No. That is a crime. Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
How do I host pictures on my own computer and have links on the forum so that anyone can have access to them? I do store all of my photos on my own computer but nobody can see them unless they are logged into my computer. So I either have to upload them to the forum using the built in forum storage system or host them at another site like Photobucket that allows me to copy the links into the forum post.yolos wrote:I do not understand why people do not host the pictures on their own computers. Re: Third Year SFG in Canada
Raining again here. A very grey day. When are we going to see the sun again? But I toddled off to the garden to take some photos (and I'm not using Photobucket!!!).
This bed has Lettuce, Beet, Kohlrabi, Onion, Leek and Garlic plants.
The new ANSFG 3x6 for Squash and Melon. These guys sure have a lot of growing to do if they are going to make use of the new MegaTrellis.
The new OSFG. For the most part the plants are doing OK in this bed.
A couple of Roma Tomatoes developing on a plant in one of the OSFG 4x4 beds.
A Canada Crookneck Squash looking healthy but struggling to gain any height due to lack of sunshine.
A Beet forest.
Looks like Mrs TD may get another strawberry.

Beautiful! They don't seem to mind all the rain.
Did you upload directly from photos saved to your computer? It's so easy to drag and drop. Wish I could drag and drop on my tablet.

Thanks CC. I need some encouragement today. The answer is "Yes" concerning the photos. No more Photobucket for me. I'm hoping there will be such an outcry that Photobucket will reconsider their position and at least grandfather existing links.CapeCoddess wrote:Beautiful! They don't seem to mind all the rain.

I went back over my posts for the past few days and reinserted the photos the Photobucket no longer shows. This time I used this forum's built in photo sharing feature. It's a very long and painful process and I doubt very much that I will ever reinsert all of the missing photos in this thread.
