This is my first time growing them and I have not tried them yet. I'll probably just munch them out in the garden before they get to the house.  Very Happy

Is a cucamelon the one they call sandita at the bodega? I've been curious about those.

Cucamelon is also known as Mousemelon, Sandita, and Mexican Sour Gherkin. So yes, they are Sandita.

My Canada Crookneck Squash plants have/had a lot of what look like small yellow squash but which turn brown and drop off.  here is an example of one.
Third Year SFG in Canada - Page 19 Img_4415

I have one that is the same shape as the small yellow "buds" but it is much larger and green in color.  I went out early this morning to find that it had produced a huge flower. I am hoping this one will grow into a nice squash.

Are you sure those weren't male flowers?

The one on the bottom looks male, as close as I can squint.

That's what I thought initially.  There are large male flowers near the base of the plant and each one has a long thin stalk connecting it to the main stem. The flower in the photo is at the end of a miniature squash located close to the end of one of the long vines (about 4 feet from the base of the plant). The middle parts of the flowers (stamens and stigmas) are noticeably different as well.

BTW ... The two bottom photos in my previous post are different views of the same flower.

Thanks sanderson.

Here is a sample of things harvested this morning. Some will go into a smoothie and others will be eaten as is.

On the front row is our first ripe Sweet Million Tomato and three Cucamelons (look like mini watermelons and taste like cucumbers). Behind them is a Pickling Cucumber and a Slicing Cucumber. In the next row is a small English Telegraph Cucumber, a Nasturtium flower, some Blue Curled Scottish Kale and a Golden Zucchini. In back is a Swiss Chard leaf.

And here is the only Canada Crookneck Squash that is showing any real growth. The vine on which this growing is 4.5 feet above the MM and has only 3.5 feet to go to get to the top of megatrellis.

My winter squash are just setting fruit now as well. This is about usual for me. They will mature by October close enough.

Do you provide some protection of some sort? Or do you not get a frost by then? Or do they still mature after a frost? My winter squashes are just starting to set fruit and my first frost date is in late September.

My first frost date is usually Sept 7th, but it is a light frost and followed by Indian summer. I try to make sure everything is well watered, and I will throw sheets over the squash. What happens is that the big outer leaves of the squash get burnt but the fruit and smaller leaves are fine. The squash really goes into hyper drive for ripening fruit then. A killing frost is usually a couple to 4 weeks later. Of course, running so close to the line means some years I get no squash or corn at all, but most years I get plenty.

Two of the grandkids came over and raided Mrs TD's everbearing raspberry bushes. Not a bad haul for them to take home. The neat thing is that the kids are low enough to the ground that they can get right underneath and pick the berries we miss.

Been away for a week so it was nice to see what has been happening in the garden.

The Canada Crookneck Squash has achieved a length of 9-1/2 inches.

I checked our 4x4 SFG bed of everbearing strawberries this morning and was rewarded with a little harvest of red beauties. There would have been many more but they were touching the MM and rotted. There are many more in various stages of growth and ripening so I put straw under them to keep them off the MM.
