Garden Footwear

I did post in the SEARCH BOX getting something like 600 results, but nothing in a title that is easy to find.

So, what do you wear on your feet in the garden?

I am looking for something inexpensive (cheap), lightweight, looks good on a lady, easy to keep clean and is comfortable,( meaning for my widish short feet) and doesn't leak.

I don't mind wearing something ugly but useful when I am doing dirty work that matches my gardening outfit, but something that looks elegant when I am dressed in ordinary clothes and just pottering.

Have you looked at those $6 "water shoes" at Walmart? They don't have any traction, so if you have any slippery slopes in your garden they may not work, but they're lightweight, easy to get on and off, and made for getting wet.

can be ugly but also looks elegant? This is a hard one. In the winter I wear tennis. In the summer rubber Crocs sandles that I wash when I take a shower. They smell like rubber tires!

Those water shoes don't smell like roses, either. 

I use my Crocs. Works fine as long as a bumblebee doesn't force his/her way in & sting me, lol! (Yes, that happened last year.)

I wear flip flops in the late spring, summer and early fall.  I wear sloggers in the late fall and winter and early spring.  Here is a link.  Not sure if the price range is what you are looking for.  I have had these for two years and they look as good as new.

Sanderson, you have confused ugly with elegant. Ugly for the dirty work but more elegant for the pottering stuff. Two separate activities.

Opps. Well, those Sloggers are beautiful for gardening. Yolos, are the sizes wide? What is the difference between 8 and 8 B(M)? Is the 8 B more like a C or W?

Sorry, can't help with that question.  I got mine at Tractor Supply.  Those designates of B(M) were not at tractor supply.  I checked out the slogger website and they do not mention those width of shoes either.  So I would forget about the B(M).  (maybe boys, men ???)  Check out their website and select the size tips.

I have narrow heels and high arch.  I received the rain boots as a gift.  I cant get them over my high arch without a struggle.  But the other shoes I linked to are perfect for me.  My shoe size is a 9.  I got a pair of 9's because they fit perfect.  I also got a pair of 10's because it is so easy to just slip them by just wiggling my feet into them.  So if I am going to be in the garden a long time without coming inside, I will wear the size 9's.  If I plan to come back inside a lot, I will wear the size 10's because they are so easy to just slip on and off.

I use these mucks, very comfy, easy to slip on...never had such an easy footwear, place your foot near it and it seems to pull it in.
I may get a pair to use as slippers.
Expensive though, however you can get years of use out of it.

For me, it's Crocs. Loose enough to slip off easily when I come in the house, so I don't track dirt everywhere. I throw them in the washer to clean them. I do like the look of those mucks though, jimmy cee!

I like the look of those Mucks as well as the Sloggers.

I got a pair of Duck Shoes from Canadian Tire. $44 reduced to $24. Outbound Brand.

"Waterproof shell and water-resistant upper.  Low cut slip-on with adjustable laces and rugged sole."

I tried my usual size; too tight and could not get it on.  Up one size, could get it on but still too tight. Same size but in a men's width; just right.  I am not a dainty lady.

When I returned home a pair of garden shoes had been left on my doorstep by my friend.  Slip-ons that were too big but good enough to wear with two pairs of socks.

So now one  pair near the back door for serious gardening and one near the front door for slipping out to do something quick.

Flip flops, Crocs, or Sketchers depending on temperature and wetness.....

An old pair of tennies, an old pair of slip on tennies, garden clogs, or flip flops; mostly depending on the weather.  Where my boxes are is the soggiest part of the yard and I don''t like wet feet.

I should be ashamed of my shoes, but I'm not.  High end Reeboks that somehow just ended up being work shoes.  A pair of slip-ons for Walmart, not sure how much they cost.

For heavy duty work (e.g., moving patio stones) I use steel toed work boots. For lighter work (read most of the time) I wear an old pair of sneakers. For even lighter work (e.g., harvesting, watering) in the summer, I wear rubber sandals that are easy to slip on/off.

Upper left: warm outdoor house slippers a neighbor bought for me as a thank you, used for quick trips outside.  Upper right:  Crocs rubber slip ons for summer. Lower left: compost turning tennis (read manure) that have even been mended with red tape.  Lower right, old tennis for working in the yard, climbing ladder, etc.  Bottom:  new indoor warm house slippers on my feet!

I just bought Crocs yesterday! This was the first time I have ever found size 15, so cool.

My feet are never so happy as when wearing Crocs. I practically live in them. But I find that they spoil my feet for other shoes. I swear my feet sigh with relief when I put my Crocs back on! I do wish they weren't so ugly though. But honestly, who doesn't like a comfy pair of shoes that weighs nothing, feels like you're walking on a cloud, that you can wear in rain, snow, mud, and you can hose off, or throw in the washing machine, and they last forever? I like the classic Croc, and while I wear them almost all the time, I'd love it if they were cuter. So I ordered a pair of the Khombu sandals! They look really comfy, and from the reviews, almost everyone agrees. I had to order them, since my local Costco didn't have them in my size, which was almost a good thing, since I had to set up an online account, and I discovered that they ship for free! So in a few days, I will have what looks like a comfortable and cuter alternative to my Crocs, because as my best friend told me, "You can't wear them EVERYWHERE!" Can't I???
