Great work on the strawberries Kiristin.

I started one 4x4 bed of everbearing strawberries this year. We have harvested a few strawberries (and I mean a few!) but I did not expect much the first year. I noticed (as mentioned in a previous post) that any strawberries touching the MM soon rotted. So I got a bale of straw and mulched the bed. No problems with fruit going bad now.

Critters are another problem. I put one of my chicken wire cages (per the ANSFG book) over the 4x4 box. When we got back from vacation it was obvious that some critter had been on top of the cage and pushed the center of the chicken wire down to the level of the strawberries for a feast. I need to build a stronger cage.

Nice! My berry aspirations were a bit lofty it seems....next year!

Love the thymes! Aren't they a cool plant? And so tasty in the fall/winter dishes too....very hardy as well. And evergreen, so you can harvest all winter long!

My strawberries are hanging in there. They each have a half dozen leaves or so. I expected more growth. Maybe it's been too dry.

Thymes are nifty! Very Happy

I hope they are hardy enough to survive the winter in the pot. The sort I have in the garden has done fine, but I've had difficulty with stuff in pots over the winter. I got my planted (not potted) rosemary (no where near as hardy as thyme) through the winter with an over-turned 5-gallon bucket. Not sure of the diameters, but maybe I can do the same thing with this jar. The wind protection alone will likely help because of the way the clay jar will pull moisture....
