Growing squash and courgettes (zucchini) in permanent beds
I'll soon be up on our allotment building beds and sorting it out.
I plan to grow four squash (two each of Autumn Crown and Zuca di Marmellata) and hope to train them up a frame. The bed size (at the moment) is 6x4'.
Will these need putting into a rotation plan, or can they be permanently sited?
I'd like to do the same with courgettes if possible.

I am not sure on the rotation question, so I will leave that to the experts here.
I do have a question for you though, and that is are you going to make jam from the Zuca?

NM, Winter squash can easily be trained up a trellis. Regarding rotating to different beds each year, it is recommended. However, I have had winter squash in the same 2 beds for 2 summers due to the restrictions of my back yard. I'm trying to work out how I can move them to a different bed this summer.

Thanks both.
Yes Milt, that was the plan. I like the idea of an Italian 'squash jam'. Do you have a recipe? Apparently, Zuca is the squash to use as it is sweet. I've got a packet of seeds coming from Italy!
I've done a bit more internet searching and reading this afternoon, and came up with this site:http://www.onthegreenfarms.com/fruit-vegetable/how-to-grow-organic-winter-squash/
Another option, I suppose, would be to use 50 gallon containers. I prefer the idea of growing them in the ground though.

Squash jam is very tasty, and I have not had any since I left Italy in 1980. I was stationed there in the navy and our Italian nurse used to make some for us from time to time.
I found this for you on the net.

Thanks Milt!
I have seen a couple already, some have almond, some use Amaretto.
The more recipes the better, I say!

I have started a thread for Pumpkin Jam under recipes. Please post any further recipes for this type of jam under the new thread. Thank you

Sorry for interrupting, but I thought this was funny.
I was scanning through the latest topics in the forum and came across this one, "growing squash and cigarettes"..... wait, what?
Just made me do a double take for a second. I got a laugh out of it anyway.
