Identity of micro insects?
This is the first year I have seen this damage on my new starts.
All these plants are indoors and some are even being grown hydroponically but most are in potting soil.
At first they just looked like some sort of spots but then I took some photos
They are so small I didn't even realize this was some kind of insect.
I see the damage mostly on the fist new leaves.
Can anyone identify them?
Thanks
Jeff

Re: Identity of micro insects?
Thanks for the quick reply.
That looks like what they are.
I wonder how they got there since I never had them before.
Maybe from a new bag of Organic potting soil that I was trying.
I hope they die off and don't come back.
Thanks
Jeff

Yes, those little buggers get in somehow! Good luck! That site was pretty comprehensive.

Haven't seen any of these. However, now that the subject has been discussed, I am guaranteed to get them next year.
Re: Identity of micro insects?
I had a neighbor once who was working on a PhD in entomology, and remember thinking what an exciting life he had ahead of him. Not. But it's amazing how fascinating bugs can become when they stand between you and something you love. Or, such as in the case of helpful insects like bees, when you realize how dependent we are on them.

Re: Identity of micro insects?
These 2 books have changed my entire outlook on bugs, along with educating me a wee bit...
As of now I'l never kill a bug again until I find out what it is, if it's beneficial or pesty.

I bought the top one. It was helpful but I just wished it had more insects. It was used so I wasn't out a lot of money.
