Honestly, I feel so fortunate now that it's all completed that neighbors roots forced me to do this..Time is catching up to me and I can feel the advantages even now having them up higher...I can even sit anywhere I want now, may get a little soiled, it's only mix.
I am loving my table toppers too. It makes tending the garden so easy. Now there is a downside...I had to break out a step stool to harvest some cherry tomatoes that ended up being almost 9' above the ground, but those are the good problems to have.

I would have to break out a ladder, if not two ladders and a platform. ralitaco. Very Happy

10 - Cover is working nicely for me. - Page 2 Empty Frost Blanket

Post  ralitaco 3/26/2016, 12:20 am

I stumbled on this while looking up garden fabrics.

It's a Frost Blanket

Here's the description: The Poly-Tex Frost Blanket is the perfect covering material for protecting your garden vegetables or backyard plants from cold weather. Made from polypropylene, a thermoplastic polymer, your plants get the sunlight, air and water they need while staying safe from the dangers of light frost, wind and driving rain. This is an excellent product for late fall and early spring as it can extend the life of your plants and or selling season. If cared for properly the Poly-Tex Frost Blanket can be re-used over multiple seasons.

I am guessing it would keep things too hot for the summer. And it doesn't look see through.

Just wondering if anyone has used one.

Jimmy, would you please show photos and explain how you did this once you're finished?  It drives me crazy having to lift up so much to harvest a few.

I finished this up today. Sewed width of 3 pieces, came out almost perfect in my 10 foot bed.
I also sewed it to the PVC. Wind shakes it a bit, but blows right through it. Clamps hold down the bottom section, just remove them for access..
A bit of time to do it, however, now I am sure any bugs won't just fly in at leisure.

GREAT PHOTOS JimmyCee.
I like how you lashed the mesh to the PVC...that was genius!

Those holes look fairly big, but maybe it was just because the camera was so close. What bugs are you expecting to keep out? Or perhaps I should ask, what bugs will still be able to get in?

Sewing them onto the poles IS a great idea! I think I'll copy that once I get to that point...

I know it keeps the moths out, smaller bugs can get in, if they take time to try.
That all depends on how dedicated they are to entering..
I had this up last season and was very pleased with how nice my plants looked..If it keeps cucumber beetles out, all worth it.
I've been out at night and one wouldn't believe the bugs that are roaming around then.

Last season, I was hit with Kudzu bugs, Squash Vine Borers, Hornworms, FireAnts and then some. This looks like it could help with some of those pests. Really well done JimmyCee

Looks great!! Thanks for all the great photos too. I think if I sewed a pocket, like for drapes or tents, and put the PVC pipe through it could work. thinking Now you got me really thinking...

It looks like the small bugs can get in but if it worked for you last year and you are happy, that's all that matters.  Its looking terrific on the poles.

One  thing I've noticed with this cover, on occasion I left the bottoms to let some beneficial s in.  Once in all they want to do is get out, they fly to the top and appear frantic. I'll help the bees and such, the rest I'll just let be
