Cover is working nicely for me.

Completely closed in 1 bed this season, most plants do not need pollination, however I do have a tomato plant along with a couple of eggplants just for trials. I may need to hand pollinate unless I open on occasion.
Everything is working so very nicely, clean, and bug free. Every couple of weeks I add a light mix of fish emulsion, not sure if it needs it, however I do..it makes me feel good...

+1 I loved having bug-free winter kale, chard and cabbages covered with tulle.

I use tulle also but I'm on the look out for something stronger than tulle and more airy than row cover. Jimmy's looks strong.

yolos, one of the gals in New England has cicada netting and she loves it. I checked it out but the cost is insane...altho if it lasts a few years than it would be worth it.

Jimmy......Lookin' good. Covering like that deters the pests, that's for sure. You'll have much less flea beetle damage and other bug damage.
I find that the light-weight row cover works well with letting in most of the sunshine and fresh rain and keeping out the bugs. It lasts a long time as well.

Last Nov., I believe it was Yolos, and/or Haass we had a thread going for these items.
I waited till a coupon came fr Joanns, it went on sale and I actually got it for 1.99 per yard.
It takes up the top part of my cover, from the center rail down is a material that has a tad larger holes and is doing me fine.
Both materials will see more seasons than one. Very flexible and I just like it.
I have more should I decide to do another bed, however my kohlrabi, broccoli, lettuces, herbs, etc are doing great..

I am not so sure about the SVB. I would like to know if any get in this season. They are my biggest nemesis.

How long of PVC pieces did you use to bend to the other side?

I guess I can break out my calculus and use integration to find the height or area below the curve! LOL

PVC comes in 10 foot lengths, Thats what I used without cutting on my 4 X 10 beds..a few inches short ontop, corrected that with a coupling.. I used 1/2 inch except where they drop down for support.

Very Nice Jimmy cee! I am really thinking about covering my beds this season so I don't have to fight so many bugs. I was really surprised at how many different bugs came out based on what I had planted...of all of them the Kudzu bugs were the worst.

Do you usually garden with the beds uncovered? I am also debating this, only because on day-2 of my bed being complete I've seen tracks in my bed and something stepping on my direct sown squares. Not sure where my seeds are now??!! I think it is my dog that is the culprit but not sure.. No bug problems yet because nothing planted out.

Last season I put up a cover for my bed, it was mainly for a misc. bed I have and it worked nicely..so nicely, I left it up for fall, it help a bit with some frost also...I have decided to put it up and let it stay till winter. I'm putting it together so I can just lift sections I want to open up. May do it on other beds also. 10 - Cover is working nicely for me. Bed_2_10

Jimmy, would you please show photos and explain how you did this once you're finished? It drives me crazy having to lift up so much to harvest a few.

I removed it all last fall after it was done...I am presently placing all back together, however doing it differently in sections..I'll be working on it tomorrow, ( Sat ) and I will take some pics...
First I am doing each end individually. Then I was going to string just the top across, however, I think I may just do it in 3 foot wide sections...won't really know till after coffee tomorrow...either way, all I wil need to do is lift a lower section in order to access beds.. It's a snap
By the way, after 3 seasons a piece of this material pulled apart, so it's not indestructible...darn...

One of the great things about Jimmy's garden is that it is really, really raised, so he is not bending/kneeling down on the ground to see under the plastic.

Honestly, I feel so fortunate now that it's all completed that neighbors roots forced me to do this..Time is catching up to me and I can feel the advantages even now having them up higher...I can even sit anywhere I want now, may get a little soiled, it's only mix.
