Ads now even when logged in?
I am seeing ads at the top of my screen even when I'm logged in. Is that a new normal?
I have to be honest, I find them very distracting. But, I guess if it's necessary to keep the site going I can live with it.

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I will have to step behind the curtain, and run around frantically asking if anyone knows what's going on with these ads. I don't see any ads on the Home page.
Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I'm not seeing the adverts either.

I see them. I know there was an issue about it costing money to prevent them. I think there should be a law or something that they have to get written permission.

Marie, this is how it started last year at this time. For some reason you're our scout, and are affected first. Remember?
It's time to pay up again with forumotion to keep the forum ad-free when logged in.
I'll get sanderson pointed in the right direction when she shows up with her first cup of coffee.

Ah! Yeah, Boffer, now that you mention it...

I've been seeing them, too, but at least when you scroll down to the 2nd and 3rd posts you can't see them any more since they are at the top only.

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
Did anyone check on the ads on every page.
I went and tried to remove/change to something someone might be interested in. I noticed that the ads are geared to the person that is logged in to (my computer-viewing ads in Walterboro, SC.) They are Google adware. I simply do not like google.
Are some folks still not seeing ads? If that is the case, then Google, not the forum, is to blame. I would be interested, (if you are not seeing ads) in finding out how the heck you are doing it!
Any one interested in getting an MD in Walterboro, SC? I've started reporting this ad as inappropriate. It's not SFG!

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I am not getting Ads on my home computer but I am getting them on the computer at work. When we had this problem last year, Boffer walked me thru how to add a program called Ad Block. I guess that is still working. I never added the program to my computer at work.

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I am running Google Chrome, and use a variety of G products without issue. I am still not seeing advertisements when I am logged in.
A question for those seeing the adverts... have you cleared the forum cookies recently?

No Ads For Me...
littlejo and others, I use Firefox, but I think the below is also true for Chrome, but as I don't use it, I am not sure.
With Firefox, you can load an add-on called Ghostery, which blocks Google Adsense and many other adware, tracking and other badware sites.
Don't get me wrong, I know that ads are an "evil necessity". The problem is, they can be VERY distracting, and Google, along with the other ad sites, start keeping a file on what you do online, supposedly so they can target the ads they serve you. The trouble is, by keeping track of all that you do online, they can gather a lot of personal information that frankly, I don't want them gathering on me.
Another add-on you should load is BetterPrivacy, which will delete the "cookies", little bits of information that they place on your computer to track you, along with a thing called "flash cookies" which store a lot more information and are stored in a different area on your computer.
While you are at it, download the program called CCleaner. Google it. It is a standalone program which will clean up a lot of garbage files and also cookies. I have it setup to run automatically on startup so that if some sited does get a cookie stored on my computer, it is gone after Ccleaner runs.

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I deleted the forum cookies today. I saw no difference. I use Firefox, and will be checking out the programs listed. Thanks everyone! I realized it was not the forum when not all members were getting ads.
Question: Shouldn't deleting the forum cookies make me have to sign in again? Well, I didn't have to.
Thanks, Jo Ann

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
Sanderson has been trying to find the person at the foundation who is authorized to spend the credits in order to have the ads removed. Please be patient.
Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I'm seeing ads too, and now the little green and red "trees" indicating if I've read a topic are gone AFTER I read a topic, sometimes the red tree appears, not always, but no green trees at all anymore..

I run a combination of add-on's for Firefox that take care of ads for me. In short, it makes them disappear. Specifically, Ad Block Plus as well as Ghostery.
I also have Third-Party cookies turned off.

Re: Ads now even when logged in?
I use Firefox, so I installed Adblock Plus, and turned off third party cookies. Well, don't work for me because then I could not sign in to SFG. So, I let the cookies be saved and all is well.
I don't see the ads, but the forum may have taken them down?

Sanderson, save the foundation some money and just suggest all get Adblock Plus. It's free, and I stopped ads on all sites I've visited!
