Bargains at 99Cents Only store
I don't have a Cents sign anymore! Or at least I don't know how to make one!
UN-SPOILER: This post is really long, so unless you're really bored, just suffice it to say that there were some really good gardening bargains at the 99Cents-sign Only store.
After spending over a couple of hours in Home Depot, getting $1 flower 6-packs, 5/$10 brown mulch, a could more 5/$10 veggies and the makings for my DIY PVC light stand, and after watch a YouTube video about what's good for gardening at the 99 Cents Only store, I came away with some cool stuff: Bags of Pink Oxalis bulbs (5 bulbs/$1), several really pretty trowels decorated with flowers, $.29 seed packets lettuce, carrots, etc., nice stackable planters, like for strawberries, and BEST of all, tomato clips, which I had seen used in another YouTube video and found online for $$ - they were, like, 20 for a dollar. They had $1 clay pots and saucers and a bunch of ornamental garden decorations, mostly useless for support, but really cute or pretty! Packs of bamboo sticks.
I can't think of anything else I need! Oh! Also bought 1000! popsicle sticks at Walmart for under $5 for plant I.D.'s.
Oh, something funny! After seeing how busy HD was on Wednesday, with the sale and all, I got my roomie to accompany me to HD at 6:00 A.M. (to beat the crows, I told her, but really, I had been looking forward to having Saturday off from work and was looking forward to spending an hour or two looking at plants and stuff. "Com'on, I'll take you out to breakfast afterwards!" Well, we got there at 6 and didn't even see the first customer until 6:30, ! So not necessary, the 6 a.m. business. By 8, though, it was busy, especially around the 5/$10 veggies and flowers. We had to stay until 8, as my sister and her truck were NOT going to HD at 6 o'clock in the morning! We spend the time picking out two screen storm doors that needed to be replaced. When she did come, it was a good thing, because I had 4 bags of Mel's Mix, 3 bags of Nature's Way Potting mix, 4 bags of Nature's Way "Really Good Compost," and 2 bags of Brown Mulch ($2 each for 4 Cu ft.). I was going to get more of that, but it was only ME which was unloading them back at the house and by that time, I was exhausted, and feeling really old!! I hadn't heard back from my "guy" about unloading the truck and bringing the stuff into the back yard, which he usually does for me, so I replaced my broken wheelbarrow and unloaded it all myself. Thought I was gonna die! Can't wait for tomorrow to play in the garden and to build my PVC light stand! And I felt better after a 3 hour nap, lol.

This is one code that makes a cent sign: & cent;
Remove the space between & and c

Press and hold down the [Alt] key and then press 0162 on the number pad. Then release the [Alt] key. Make sure you use the numerical pad keys and not the regular keyboard numbers for this one

Could you post a picture of the clips? I wonder if they're the ones I was trying to find a couple of years ago, unsuccessfully.TinySpock wrote: I came away with some cool stuff: Bags of Pink Oxalis bulbs (5 bulbs/$1), several really pretty trowels decorated with flowers, $.29 seed packets lettuce, carrots, etc., nice stackable planters, like for strawberries, and BEST of all, tomato clips, which I had seen used in another YouTube video and found online for $$ - they were, like, 20 for a dollar.

¢ This is what I get typing ¢
Now why did it work when I changed the Font color but not when I typed it??
Yikes, when I hit Send, it auto changed to the cent sign. What is going on?

Your garden looks great! I found some great buys too, specifically stacking planters. The premade ones are SO $. All I had to do was drill some holes and I got an herb tower and a strawberry tower!

Thanks very much!
Oh, Momvet - I got 5 of those stacking planters, also! There's a pix of the tomato clips (I saw them on a gardening YouTube video - they were not this cheap online!)
I keep a trowel at each of my 8' x 2' TT's. Why not have pretty ones?

Jealous
Momvet, I am REALLY jealous of your stacking planters. Which 99 cent store did you get these from?momvet wrote:Your garden looks great! I found some great buys too, specifically stacking planters. Re: Bargains at 99Cents Only store
The store is called 99¢ Only, as opposed to other dollar stores, although I'm sure the other stores would have bargains also.
I was also looking for pink and yellow Oxalis bulbs online and they were expensive, much more than the $1 for 5 bulbs at the 99¢ Only Store.
They grow really well in large pots in my backyard.

Very Nice
We don't have 99¢ stores here. We have Dollar Tree, and they have a few garden offerings but nothing as nice as the stackable planters. I could use two sets of five to stack a bunch of herbs rather than place them in containers.
Tiny Spock, I am a big fan of your town. My wife and I are Mother Roaders, and we think the drive from Seligman to Needles is the best part of the entire trip.
You must have an incredible amount of sunshine there. We are lucky to have one sunny day a week here in Noah's Arkville.
I wonder if you can take a trip up to Oatman and get some free burro compost? LOL

Re: Bargains at 99Cents Only store
For the past 2 years the Dollar Tree has had some wonderful boxes of ready-to-go flower seeds - marigolds, zinnias, wild flower mix - that really work. I fill up a few pots with compost and sprinkle right out of the box, water every so often and the dang things are gorgeous! Last year, after putting in my asparagus bed, I had a huge 20 ft bare space behind it where the dirt sat for months before back filling. I sprinkled a bit from all 3 boxes on that space, raked it in and the results were great.
I hope they have them this year. Guess I'd better head over there and get some more before they are gone.

I got my planters (and some of the same plant clips!) at the 99 cent store in Yucaipa (California). I bought the ones for the strawberries then went back and got more for the herbs - they had tons of them!
