Moving a Table Top
Has anyone successfully moved a table top across a lawn or dirt using very large furniture coasters? I need to move the 2 x 8' TT away from the roof and gutter drip line. Dumb me.
Re: Moving a Table Top
Isn't it annoying when we fail to think of everything?!
We've done the weight calculations on TTs several times. There's so many variables that we concluded a 16 sf TT with properly saturated MM is in the neighborhood of 200-250 pounds +/- a lot! If you let your MM dry out, you could cut the weight by more than half.
You could put your gift of gab to work, and get a couple young studs off the street to move it for you.
I'd try putting your TT on a sheet of plywood that has a rope on the end for pulling like a sled. I'm thinking that you and hubs could pick up one end at a time and work it onto the plywood.
Or, creatively figure out how to use a hand truck on each end.
I know your TT is very solidly made, but putting it on coasters where one leg could catch on something, still puts a lot of stress on the joint.

Re: Moving a Table Top
All the young studs are at work, as they should be! The TT has my wonderful kale/chard in it right now, but it is not soaking wet. I was thinking of using Ken's heavy duty jack to lift for sliding the coaster under the 6 legs. There are 7" x 4" hard plastic with foam sliders available. Lay 4 mil plastic under the leading legs and the coasters should be able to travel the 4 feet needed?
Thanks for your valuable input.

Re: Moving a Table Top
Seriously, though, it needs to get out from under that dripping eaves/rain gutter with the nasty runoff. Even the position of the gable ends are a nuisance where it is located.
"Isn't it annoying when we fail to think of everything?!" Yes, it is.
Re: Moving a Table Top
Yeah, I suffer from that, "Darn why didn't I notice that before I began" syndrome as well! We had to move one of our table tops when we put up the greenhouse. We were able to kind of just drag it one leg at a time a few inches, I think it was just my hubby and I, maybe a third person as I don't clearly remember. The construction of ours is so heavy the legs could handle it. How strong are your legs?sanderson wrote:

Couldn't find any young men, but I did find one old fart. Together, we did it. He's icing his knee this evening.
Before, the long bed was right under the nasty drip line. Now I can take the plastic off for the rain.:
