Quick bug ID...
Found these little guys crawling around in the garden today. The black beetle was just hanging out on a leaf in our "pollinator" bed. The other one was actually inside one of the flowers on one of our Cantaloupe plants. The 2nd one looks like a "bug eater" but of course I have no idea what it is. He had some long mandibles that looked like they would be good for chomping on other bugs.

No, I didn't know the addy. I'll head there now. I didn't squish them because I wanted to see what they were first and my first impression was beneficial bugs.

The black one looks like a young June Bug. Same sort of iridescence & shape...
No clue on the other.

Thanks Marie. Speculation in this case isn't very helpful. If you have some time to do the research, any confirmed information you find would be greatly appreciated. Please post informational links.AtlantaMarie wrote:The black one looks like a young June Bug. Same sort of iridescence & shape...

Difficult to tell about the black beetle - looks like it could be one of the flower beetle group.
I suspect that the other insect is a immature (nymph) bug and it looks like one of the assassin bug group - a beneficial insect.
Photos are good but one needs to hold the insects in hand to really identify them for real.

Yeah, I went to the link provided by Camprn, (thanks by the way Camp! ), and...well....do you realize how many "small black beetles" a search there pulls up! LOLJudy McConnell wrote:Difficult to tell about the black beetle - looks like it could be one of the flower beetle group.
