I would like to share an very good article on weeds, and organic CURES...
from Mother Earth News
Deciding what method to control weeds depends largely on the weeds that you have, this is a great article to ID your worst weeds.
I have quack grass known to be the worst,

Interesting.Wonder why landscape fabric isn't included to the listed website?

Seem the only time referenced is for the usefulness of landscape fabric laid beneath a layer of straw for keeping weeds out of paths.

They probably did not mention because it is useless. it essentially dissapears in a few years
I would totally agree what newspaper  is the very best, and the only one that hinders the growth of Quack grass.  thanks
but newspaper covered with something.... I use wood chips

I am putting my new 4 x 8 bed togethe now, and my plan for the bottom is wood chips covered with newpaper, then finally a layer of cardboard before adding the MM. Think this will work okay??

don’t compost chickweed plants no matter what stage of growth they’re in (chickweed seeds can continue to mature even after you pull the plant).

I'm doomed.  I've been putting the clipping from mowing the lawn in my compost. ( I rake after the "grass" has dried out for a day).  My "lawn" is 90% weeds and mostly chickweed.  Sometimes I get the service guy to bag clippings and just let them sit in the black bags in the sun for a while.

68carguy  that sounds like it should work,   WHY the wood chips though?
The newspapers will smother the weeds first, and a year from now it will all be dissolved.
Walshevik.
I compost my weeds, they seem to break down, and I do not seem to start infestations of them
My biggest problem is the quack grass and it spreads along roots. I have dug up buckets of the roots this year and am currently trying to hot compost them, and I have put a clear plastic over the pile as well to try to get the heat up.
I was thinking of doing the garbage bag in the sun thing as well. Do you find that things seem to grow from your compost?

I just happen to have the wood chips. The place I am building my bed I had a large tree removed and they did what is called stump grinding, so the chips are already there. I just figured the chips, then newspaper, then cardboard couldn’t hurt just extra protection so the grass doesn’t make it up thru the MM.
