help finalize 2014 garden plan

Hello everyone, I'm working on my garden layout and I've got just a couple questions before I can finish.

My main question is with fall planting. I"m assuming that at some point I'm going to pull the plug on my summer seasonal plants to plant my fall plants? Main summer plants I am asking about are tomato, bell p, Jalepeno, bush beans, and basil. Would be replacing them mainly with cabbage and greens. Anyone in zone 5 have a round about time when I'll want to make the switch?

Find your 'first fall frost date'. Here is one place to get it:

Then, look at the charts in the back of the ANSFG book. They will tell you when to plant seeds and when to transplant.

You may find that your summer veggies are in their prime and not ready to be pulled, when it's time to start fall cool crops. Tomatoes, peppers, and beans can be grown until your first frost. Because of that, many gardeners will start their seeds indoors to buy some time. Then, some flexible creativity is needed to integrate the cool crops into the garden.

Greens can be planted here and there among existing plants. Cabbages get large, and may need some squares of their own.

Thanks boffer, I'd prefer to let the summer stuff keep rolling as long as I can, amd I already have a couple squares of greens. I'll just go with the flow and start some greens/cabbage indoor if I feel the need.

First fall frost is last week October.
