Spinach! Lettuce! Garlic!
I planted these around 10/30 and anxiously peeked to see sprouts each day.
All of a sudden, this morning, there are four garlics, two spinach sprouts, and one of lettuce. This, with most nights being below freezing, and I haven't covered that bed (yet). With snow in the forecast, I'll do so tonight, after planting more spinach.
After all, it's only seeds!

Your spinach and lettuce are still doing well after a freeze? That's pretty cool.

Doing well? All I can say is that they're sprouting! Covered that bed up with frost cloth tonight in a makeshift fashion. Will do it properly tomorrow, with plastic sheeting. I've been overseeing contractors all day.
Also, my strawberries are still trying to bloom and produce. I ate one this morning that looked greenish, but actually was pretty sweet.

Not dying from frost is doing well, to me. None of my spinach are really growing, but none are dying. I'm wondering what will happen when the snow hits, though.

Apparently not much.Marc Iverson wrote:Not dying from frost is doing well, to me. None of my spinach are really growing, but none are dying. I'm wondering what will happen when the snow hits, though.
After being in snow for 2.5 days:
Spinach
Buttercrunch in front, baby Romaine in back
And the newly sprouted garlic looks the same as the day before the snow fell.
BUT...I won't risk it again...next time I'll cover.

Ack. All my spinach died, I think. There may be a straggler or two. The cold, without any snow insulation, finally got to them I guess. Or maybe they grew too much with our warming weather and then the recent colder spell caught them unprepared. *le sigh*
