How're your tomatoes?

I live in WV. At one point this summer, there was rain every day for two weeks. My tomato plants have gone from bushy, fragrant, and dark to green to yellow, brown, and crusty remnants of their former selves. 

The tomatoes that were on before the crazy weather are starting to ripen, albeit some have blossom-rot, but most are okay. I got to try my first beefsteak tomato in a salad last night and it tasted like it came from the grocery store!!! I'm assuming it was from the massive amount of precipitation.

Anyway, how are everyone else's tomatoes? After driving by other gardens in the area, I don't feel so bad about mine. 

My SFG tomatoes are doing OK. We are in So. California and haven't had any rain to really speak of for at least a couple of months...maybe more. We have some tomatoes in our "regular" soil that are going nutz!! The vines are loaded and the plants are really healthy and robust. There is a cherry, Brandywine and another one I don't know the variety? It's bigger than a cherry, but smaller than an Early girl, but boy are they good, VERY rich flavored. I hope your tomatoes turn around for you...that's got to be frustrating  

I am still waiting for my first ripe tomato.  I have LOADS of tiny Amish Paste toms which still have to get to full size before I can hope for a blush, and my Dakota Gold's are just bigger than golf ball size so they should be turning color soon.  So far no pests to speak of, now that the rabbit is blocked out of the boxes.

Sweet 100 and Sungold cherry types are doing nicely - anywhere from half a dozen to two dozen a day lately, but that's out of many plants. A lot of mine are just dropping blossoms in this heat.

Better Bush doing very well, brandywines are doing great but hornworm or squirrels got them all so what's the point?, a few early girl plants have survived pest ravages and I may get to eat a few, blond kopfhen yellow cherries are growing a tiny bit and well, depending which pot you ask.

Made an egg dish today with many cherry tomatoes in it, inspired by Gordon Ramsay's quick vid on making scrambled eggs with a truss of sauteed cherry tomatoes. Nice!

Picked my first two red tomatoes of the season.  They were the heirloom Tommy Toes, from my little plant with the Septora Leaf Spot.  I am not sure how they tasted, but my two little grandaughters really enjoyed them.

Our weather has been cooler than normal so toms are very slow to ripen.

The Sweet 100's & Sungolds are loaded and just beginning to color more. We've eaten a few already but a big bowl full would be nice. One of the 100 vines is over the top of the 6' trellis already.

The red & pink Brandywines have 2 or 3 fruits each and one is monster size. Same with the Beefsteaks.

My Supersonics are the stars this year. Loaded with maters and some are monster size. We've eaten 3 smaller ones so far with 1 more sitting on the counter now for lunch today. They are out of this world with flavor. I grew them from seeds saved from last years fruits even though they are hybrid. Very glad I did.

The Roma's are all blushing now and we ate one yesterday. I was supposed to be canning those, but since they are some of the first few to ripen it looks like we may be eating them instead.  

We're excited as the toms ripen right now, but soon I'll be happy throwing some into the freezer for winter.

 Herblover I'm with with you.  All the future red toms are still primarily green so I have to settle for the little coloring on my very late planted 'blue berry blend' for now....

I just picked my first (small) Champion tomato this morning!  An Arkansas Traveler will be ready in a day or two.  The bottom of the Stupice is loaded with clusters of small tomatoes.  The Beefmaster I started from seed is thriving and getting ready to produce blossoms.

Costoluto Genovese sports three small green tomatoes, but the Cherokee Purple, which was loaded with blossoms, has lost some after two recent nighttime temps of 42 and 39.

IF warm weather holds, I expect to have a good harvest.

However, I'm beginning to wonder.  From July 27 until today, there have been 60 record low temps around the country.  Source:  www.wunderground.com/caster.  I corrected the total for duplicates, by the way.

Our first vine-ripened tomato ever to fully ripen BEFORE July 1 came from an heirloom Bloody Butcher plant.  Since then, it has given us one or two ripe fruits every three days.  The tomatoes are on the small size, but tasty.  The largest tomato to date came from Alicante seed GWN sent me in a seed exchange.  At a weekend barbeque dinner with family members, it was far and away the best tasting.  Thank you again, GWN.  Coloring up are several Black Sea Man and a couple of Pineapple fruits.  Can't wait for BLTs.  My way of preparing for BLTs is to take a pound or two of bacon and cook it crisp in either the microwave, or on cookie sheet in oven.  Drain on paper towels, cool and pack in quart zip-lock bags, press out air and freeze.  Tomatoes ripe?  Take out a zip-lock bag and make BLTs!  Nonna

I have had good success with my tomatoes. Have picked lots of cherry, quite a few roma, and 3 of my big boys. Lots of green ones on the vines as well. Now ask me about some of my other  plants and I might have a different story!

Mine are just being plain pokey.
