Fall garden in East TN ? Empty Fall garden in East TN ?

Post  ETNRedClay 7/4/2013, 9:58 pm

This is my first year with SFG and my first year with veggies.  I am THRILLED with my spring and summer SFG beds.  Eating tons of veggies and freezing more.  I'm planning the fall/winter garden now and wondered if anyone in our general area -- Zone7b, Tennessee Valley, Middle South -- had any suggestions.  I have a little more room on the map

Lettuces, microgreens, spinach, radishes, carrots, leeks, celery, kohlrabi, fennel, mini bok choi, parsnips, beets, turnips, bush beans, peas, summer squash, cukes, peppers, sprouting broccoli, & fingerling potatoes.

Suggestions?

Don't forget your collards, mustards and kale.  Also a good time to plant your garlic for next summer harvest.

I'm planning on some broccoli, lettuces, carrots, sugar snaps, and maybe something else that looks interesting at the CO-OP.  Our local CO-OP should have fall starts around the end of August for the broccoli.  The rest I'm going to start from seed in the next couple of weeks, after I get the summer stuff that is finishing up out of the beds.

I got several 6x15 ft long shade cloth rolls from Wally World a couple of years ago for $1.00 each that I'll use to help them keep cool until the weather cools down (not that it has been really all that hot this summer around here).
