Any idea what this larvae is?

Just found this critter on one of my sage plants. Any idea what it is and is is bad for my garden? I THINK it may be a butterfly or moth larvae, but not sure. Google & my "Good Bug, Bad Bug" book has not surrendered an answer.

I live in Connecticut not far from New York City.

Mostly likely a Black Swallowtail, or variant of swallowtail.

I was thinking that too, but the does not appear to be ANY yellow on this fellow.

Can you get a better pic with more light? The blur/pixelization of your photo can be caused by low light...more light can make it clear and focused, and maybe we can get a better look at those spots.
