I started this year's garden like my last ones, French Intensive raised beds. I had a duplicate order of sweet potatoes (and other seeds) come in with no place to put them. I dusted off my original SFG book from 20 years ago and decided to try my first square foot garden. Marked it off next to the existing garden, dug out the grass/roots, loosened up the soil underneath, made a first attempt at Mel's mix and started the 4x4 plot. Took a couple of nights after work to complete construction and plant. Added some bush beans and nasturtiums and will see how it goes. If it goes as well as expected, I will be transforming the rest of my garden.

glad you\'re here

LOL I resisted using the NEW method for years and then was slapping myself for my stubbornness.

Did you have any trouble finding all your Mel's Mix ingredients?

It did. Took several trips to different garden centers, most had a couple of the items. Finally found one place that had the coarse vermiculite. It took longer to get everything than it did to mix it up and put it in place. Looking forward to the results and am figuring out this will be the way to go.
