Green Ice Lettuce problem
I planted some Green Ice Lettuce from Burpee in a rectangular container. Everything was fine until I noticed today that there were little holes, like swiss cheese, only smaller, in some of the leaves. Here's a few pics:
Also, I keep all my spring veggies covered with bird netting right now; to keep out the birds and rabbits.
Any thoughts about what is causing this?? I'm in Zone 5b, by the way.
Thanks for your help, once again!

Found out!
My local Extension Office Horticulturist got back with me and he said this damage is from a "Four Lined Plant Bug". Anyone ever heard of it and what to do about it?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Green Ice Lettuce problem
Jenny,
Nope never heard of it but my swiss chard and spinach look similar (and a lot worse). I sprayed with organic Neem oil yesterday so hopefully that will take care of. Let us know what you find.

Ha! sounds like it had that much space in the bug book. I would have guessed flea beetle. In my garden I planned on a tithe to the critters whose space I invaded to grow my food. Healthy plants were always able to outgrow the "damage".
Deborah ....who thinks your green ice is pretty
Did you find a solution?
Just curious whether you found a solution? I am also in zone 5b and my lettuce was looking JUST about ready to harvest ... nice and big! And then it wilted one day, and the next day - Swiss Cheese! Big holes. I have no idea what it is. If you figured anything out, I'd love to hear. Otherwise I'll be heading to the nursery this weekend. Thanks!

I have decided to combat all bug problems by sprinkling Diatomaceous Earth around the base of each plant. I've already noticed some chomping going on with my veggies and DE is my solution
I bought mine at Lowe's.
