Can I avoid up-potting my tomtoes?

I am unsure how to proceed. I have my 24 assorted tomato plants in 6" wide pots right now. These have been their third home since seeding. I had been hoping to plant them out Monday, but with the temperatures that are forecast I am wary of risking it (lows possibly below 40.) However, my schedule is such that if I do not, then I will not be able to get to it until next Saturday. My concern is that they already are about 12 to 15 inches tall above the mix in the pots and about 8 to 9 inches wide.

Do I need to move them to larger pots if I am going to wait another 6 days to plant them out? Or can I leave them in the 6" wide pots until then? They look good and healthy and do not appear to be close to flowering at all yet.

I think the answer lies beneath the surface. How are the ROOTS doing?

I think they will be fine in the 6" pots until the weather warms up. Mine are still in small cells and looking good.

Unfortunately, I can't tell. Unlike the cells and 4" pots they lived in peviously, the 6" pos are self-watering, so I can't see underneath. I tried seeing if the bottom of a couple would turn or pop off to look, but they seem to be pretty firmly attached.

I guess I'll chance leaving them until Satuday.

Tomatoes are incredibly forgiving and are survivors. I believe they will be fine.

+1! If seedlings can survive MY care, they can survive just about ANYTHING!

I think repotting and then planting out again after six days is too short a span. I think the 6" pots will be fine. Just make sure you plant them deeper when you do plant out.
