Oh my goodness. My peas are in shock. I did manage to shade them temporarily. It has gone from the 50's to the 90's in 24 hours.

Okay so should I give the squares a cup of cool water and then cover them, or should I wait until the sun moves?

I think I will water all of the squares later in the day and hope and pray for rain.

Blast them with cold water from the hose.

Well, I don't think I will blast them but yes, I have the hose ready and will give them a drink. No direct hit with the hose. Slow trickle.
It helped to put up a barrier for some shade. The sun has moved so I will wait about another hour and water the entire garden.

It helps the peas to water in the pm if possible. I always spray the plant down too cause 85 deg is too hot for them. Mine are still going strong down here. Of course we had a cold snap, 45 deg overnight. They were blooming again today.

I put up a shade cloth today and watered the peas down to keep them as cool as possible.

Well, after a watering at about 6 p.m. they perked up. The sun had moved away from that area so I gave the entire area a good soaking - gently of course.

When one goes from 50 to 90 within 24 hours it's not just hard on the plants either. I love heat but the initial shock just about did me in.

I know the feeling - Sunday morning it was 28F, Monday afternoon hit 91F. affraid My sister out in CA had to email and complain that we had snow just about a week ago and then I was 2 deg. hotter than her house! My peas are NOT liking this. May just give up on them and plant beans on those trellises.

You should see my poor tulips. I always have a mass of them. Today did them in. The ones which were not open yet just got fried. They are partially open now and very small and are toast. Oh well, maybe next spring.

Yup, a crazy spring.

Up until now, our spring has been unusually cold and wet...getting several more weeks out of tulips than usual (frost warnings jsut a few days ago).

On the other hand, hot temps in the last couple days caused my overwintered kale to bolt (beautiiful bright yellow flowers) and some of my overwintered spinach looks like it could bolt anytime...picked a whole cooler full this morning to make room for green beans.
