My cabbages overwhelm their square foot garden, the leaves shed water, and it is difficult to hand water the soil. Any Suggestions?

Maybe a water wand on the end of your hosepipe, Nick?

I got a hand wand from Lowe's that is about a foot long and has the adjustable end that allows you to choose several different sprays. It allowed me to reach them in the center of my beds and get under the bottom leaves to water the soil directly.

I use a wand too, it's about 2.5 feet long. With the cabbages I don't worry too much about overhead watering as the plant is designed to collect and shed water right at its roots. I do shower the cabbages but never the tomatoes, which cannot shed the water the same as the cabbages.

I have also been know to lop off the very llargest bottom leaves of the cabbages to allow room.
