New to SFG

Hi everybody brand new to all of this and this board so I hope I am in the right spot. We built and planted our first SFG yesterday and we are so confused as to how to protect against critters but still have the trellis in the back free for the plants to climb? Any ideas? or will the rabbits/squirrels leave the cuccumbers and snap peas alone?

The trellis typically goes on the north side. If you don't mind keeping those squares exposed that are using the trellis, then you could build just a 3 foot by 4 ft critter cover to protect the rest of the squares.

To protect everything you'd have to go crazy like I did in the past with lots of expanded chicken wire around the trellis. Or as I finally did, go and get yourself Deer Away, it comes in granules and liquid, or a similar product to put around the trellis on the grass, it has coyote urine in it.

Thanks I am more just worried about the lettuce and carrots I guess from the rabbit as he is the size of a small dog living of fallen bird seed now. The squirrels are just boogers and will figure out how to get in no matter what I do I think. I know in years past when we just did tomatoes and peppers against the house they never touched those so i think those are safe again this year, not sure what else they will eat. Oh well live and learn just don't want the kids to be heart broken after all the work they put into building and planting with us.

I make a chicken wire cover for my garden because the bunnies will eat lettuce and radishes. I learned the hard way when the nibbled my just flowering peas to the ground............
