My Rusty Garden Empty My Rusty Garden

Post  R&R 1011 on 4/6/2013, 8:46 pm

Ive spent all week working on the garden area that was completely over taken by weeds. I got A LOT done today pulling 8 ft weeds with my dog. Yes, he actually helps pull the weeds out of the ground!

Ive got my 2 3'x3' beds ready for MM and the grid. I found some sisal rope in the barn Ill probably use for the grids. Its pretty thick so it may hold up pretty well. We'll see. To the right you can see the concord grape vine. I should have pruned it, but I was scared of hurting it. It did great last year.

I cleared this whole 30'x24' area by hand!

My 2'x4'x12" bed for carrots! The plastic bed was free and I reinforced it with cinder blocks. Ill probably plant some flowers in the cinder blocks. The box under the blue tarp is my daughter's sand box.

And the start of my 12'x4' bed. Ive talked DH into getting another 12'x4' bed instead of doing the 12'x3' stone bed along our patio.

The weed pile! You can see the previous owners old rain barrel. The gutter needs to be reattached and there is no lid to his barrel.

And just for fun, the old previous owner's sign we found in the barn. You guessed it. He was a sheep farmer. Ive been finding all sorts of goodies around the property.

R&R, your garden area is looking great. All that HARD WORK IS GOING TO PAY.
What a great sign, are you going to hang it back up in the barn? Wish it was mine. Wink

The outside of the barn is in really bad shape. It needs to be torn down. The wood is rotting and its not salvageable. I think Im going to clean the sign up and hang it in the house. Smile

Filled my boxes and got some seeds started. I did not get the memo that filling the boxes would take me all day!
Started my carrots. I left 4 squares open for carrot week!

I started bunching onions, peas, spinach, and lettuce. I covered them with bird netting.

I got lazy with the 12x4 bed. I was tired. So I didnt level the ground underneath it and just kind of made a bowl with my weed cloth in the bed to keep the soil in. It will have mulch around it too. Still have to make my grid.
