plastic to warm soil & garlic?

If I place plastic over the raised bed to warm the soil (it's still quite frozen), do I need to cut a hole or vent it for the garlic already in the bed? Or will the garlic be okay?

Never used plastic and after visiting the Missouri Botanical Garden this weekend in St. Louis, I'm quite inspired to get the garden going.

The garlic will take care of itself, it doesn't need a warm bed...
Plastic over other beds to increase solar gain may be helpful, whether you lay it atop the soil or erect a hoop.

I would encourage you to do plenty of research regarding using plastic mulches.

Gotcha, I re-read the book and thought I could set plastic atop the soil to warm it up before planting. Now I get that the plants can be planted under a plastic covered hoop house. Purchased the materials from the hardware shop today. Hope to get it up by Sunday.
