Got Snow??? Empty Got Snow???

I just saw the forecast for the upper mid-west and eastern S.D. calling for snow. If you live in the "snow zone" for today/tomorrow, have you harvested everything yet?

I'm in SE Iowa and I did harvest every thing I could and spent the day cleaning peppers to dehydrate. No snow predicted here, but I've seen the weatherman/woman be wrong, well, several times, lol. Having said that, I will still cover my tom's, trying to keep them for a little while. Then the lettuce and cuke gardens will also be covered. Just not ready for old man winter yet.

I live in the snow zone, but will not be back from vacation until AFTER the snow is supposed to fall. Fortunately, I had my housesitter cover all my remaining toms before she left for a 5-day hiking trip and my second housesitter took over. The first few snows in our area usually melt within a day or so, and I am hoping this year will be no exception - otherwise I will miss the bulk of my tom crop! Shocked At least I will still have carrots to dig. Got Snow??? 998388915 Looking forward to seeing what is left when I get back. At least we left the down comforters (and about 50 fleece pieces, and 3 regular comforters) laying out for the hairless cats to cuddle under since the heater is still set low!!! Maybe our housesitter caved and turned the heat up!

Here in southerrn British Columbia we haven't had snow yet, (we sometimes get it at Hallowe'en), but this morning the temperature is 26F (-3C).

My geraniums are now looking rather sad; yesterday I picked all the green tomatoes and last week I brought my Wiggler Hilton worm bin inside so they should be happy for the rest of the winter.

All my veggie beds have been topdressed with some nice compost, and I am busy filling up the empty compost bins with this years fallen leaves, and adding some of the dried grass I have been saving through the summer, and also adding some compost worms and hoping they will survive the winter. The SFG beds will also have a pile of leaves placed on them, then of course there will be the snow to come on top of that.

No more SFGing until the spring, I'm afraid, but I can enjoy the planning etc., and appreciate all the gardens from our friends down south and around the world. Very Happy

Next week I'm going to start cleaning out our sfg's. Our okra plants are about 7ft. tall but they seem to be done. We put in four plants and harvested over a gallon bag so far. Those will be great to have over the winter. I think next year we may do more fall gardening.
