Another great find!
One of my customers gave me a $30 gift certificate to Amazon. This is what I got with it.
I'm really excited about this. If it works well I won't have to start my seeds on the kitchen table anymore. My husband will be very happy! Great find for the money.

Yes it is a mini greenhouse. It's called a Gardman R687 4-Tier Mini Greenhouse. Here is the link where I found it.

Re: Another great find!
I picked up some plants from a freecycle posting. The lady had one sitting out on her patio with 2 big clipon lights inside. Said she used it to start her seedlings.

Re: Another great find!
it wasn't from Freecycle, but at the grocer some lady saw me dead-head some plants, and she said: "have Day-lilies to get rid of, you're welcome to some if you like". She had me follow them home in the neighborhood, and she gave me ten . And the next-door neighbor gave me 3 Poppies, and the Garden-center was throwing some others out, so guess where they are now God is Good, all the time
Now, should someone want to donate a Greenhouse, we'll have it made or we could make one eventually.

Re: Another great find!
I have a couple of these. One four shelf, one three shelf. The covers are shot. So I used them in my popup greenhouse last spring! No shelf shadows. If I over watered it just dripped down to the next shelf!
My daughter has a big south window in her living room. I bought her one for her herbs. She loves is it and found out she don't have a black thumb!

Replacement covers are available. I have seen them at Big Lots so somebody else must sell them too.

Re: Another great find!
I'd recommend some bracing for the 4-tier mini-greenhouse. When we tried to move ours to a more advantageous place, it came apart: the side pipes were too loose where inserted to the side, mesh shelf supports. Solution: long piece of wire from the rear northeast corner to the rear southwest corner, and another wire from the rear northwest corner down to the rear southeast corner in an "X" configuration. Somewhat tightened up, the wires eliminated the chance the mesh shelves would fall out. This summer, ours houses the Africal violets and a couple of orchid in the shaded portion of the house's sunroom. I hope to rig a light system in the little "greenhouse" next spring to start seedlings. Will be looking for hints from y'all who have a similar setup. Nonna

When I clicked your link and attempted to purchase I got this message: We are not able to ship this item to your default shipping address. I have my street address, not a PO Box listed. Anyone know why I would get this message?

I don't know why you're having that problem. I don't see any restrictions. Are you in a rural area? Did you try to cancel the order and start over?
If you go to the help screen on the right there is a button that says "Contact Us." Maybe you could send them a message.
Wish I could help

Re: Another great find!
I have two of these because replacement covers cost more than the whole set-up. I call mine a green closet. The first thing to go is the seam that holds the zipper. I still use them to dry garlic and onions and to keep herb pots out of the rain as well as starting soil cubes. The cover lasts about a year and a half. My first one crashed in a wind storm. now I bungee them to the deckwall. Even so, I love mine and will move it into the green house when it is done.walshevak wrote:Replacement covers are available. Thanks for your suggestion to cancel the order. I did that and then tried again and it worked. Must be some glitch in the Amazon system.

Re: Another great find!
Rowena Have you used it outside in the winter time? I'm wondering if it will protect plants in winter temps? Well if you call 20 degrees winter temps? We rarely go below 20; usually high 20's low 30's at night.

Ah, yes, CinciLou, zip ties! So much better idea, and better looking, than the left-over electrician's wire. Thanks. Nonna (though PapaVino said duct tape was the answer...yeah, sure)

mine lives outside year-round, on the deck which is the only location next to the house that gets direct sunlight for more than four hours at a time. i had my husband bolt it to a dolly so it rolls better and is more stable, but i also have an airline cable tie around it to keep it from blowing over in a big wind (we get those a lot around here--tornado alley).
when the weather gets below 40 degrees at night, i place a layer of something in the bottom shelf to keep the cold from creeping in. sometimes it is just a layer of cardboard but if it is going to dip below freezing, i put a scrap of carpet in there too. i also will drape a blanket over it to trap some heat. thus far, this has been enough, but in nashville we rarely get into the teen's at night.

My hubby thinks zip ties are the answer to everything that either won't work with duct tape or would look bad. If possible we use them everywhere. They are so cheap and come in many colors

Re: Another great find!
Yep. Like the time PapaVino inadvertently backed into a post and demolished the glass window in the truck's canopy. When he went to get a replacement, he found the company was out of business, and no one else could fabricate a curved glass window for the canopy. So he bought a sheet of heavy clear plastic and cut a replacement window. Wasn't the best fit, and cracked...so out came the duct tape (clear, don't 'ya know). I kept teasing him that I'd put a sign under the duct taped area reading: "Glass repair by Redneck Glaziers, Inc." Must have made an impression, because he headed me off by buying a new truck. Now he can claim we have a new truck because it's my fault. Good thing is: new truck can easily carry all ingredients for Mel's Mix AND a couple of cattle panels! Nonna

Re: Another great find!
Lol at the cable ties and duct tape, hubby prefers gaffa tape but otherwise he's the same. If it can't be fixed with those or superglue then out it goes!
