Put another way; face the setting sun and North is to the right of you.

Re: comfussed.com
Those of you trying to determine north or south from the setting or rising sun, remember the sun does not always rise or set in the same place throughout the year. Where I live, there is about a 45 degree difference between a winter rising sun and a summer rising sun. But using this method will get you close to the right direction.

Re: comfussed.com
You are so right about that and its really quite a drastic difference.
Here in Ohio I never noticed till I moved to the country and had a clear view. In the summer the sun clearly sets more north westerly. In the winter it sets more south westerly. It rises in the summer more north easterly and winter more south easterly.

I just check the compass in the truck and see where it points when parked in the driveway.
